3 points is 3 points though, we can only improve in how we play at times and we're missing a key cog in Di Maria along with Blind, Rojo, Shaw and Rafael. I'd also put Herrera in our best side. We have January to build further and if we're in the top 3 at that point, we can guarantee a place in the Champs League. Van Gaal's biggest achievement so far - getting that self belief back, maybe lucky at times, but we have a winning run. Van Persie also looking sharp. 9 months a go, we were thrashed 3-0 at Old Trafford with the same players available to Van Gaal today apart from Herrera and Falcao.

6 wins in a row with Villa next without Hutton, Richardson and Cleverley, it's possible to make it 7. Also with Liverpool and Arsenal playing next week, there's a chance to make that gap even bigger.

Interesting about the Real Madrid rumour, makes the Jordan Pickford to Man Utd have that bit of credibility.

He was always right up there with the best when he joined, its just English commentators and journalists who micro manage a keepers performance to death that failed to recognise the talent. I certainly couldn't tell you a better keeper. Courtois isn't as good, and Manuel Neuer got away with murder in the world cup, he plays like he did against Algeria like that again, and 9 times out of 10 Algeria knock Germany out.

He clearly had the potential to be up there with the best but his initial performances for Man U were definitely nervy ones and he seemed to lack a fair bit of presence in his six yard area. He's clearly muscled up in the two years since which has helped him develop that presence, his shot stopping was never really in doubt but thanks to a pretty average Man U back four he has had plenty of practise this season.

So, went to St.Marys today, somewhat expecting a beating, im an optimistic kind of guy normally, but today, everything was stacked against us.

Jay Rod, Tadic, Gallacher, Cork and Mayuka all out injured. Gardos, Schneiderlin and Wanyama all out suspended and Steven Davis and Pelle both carrying knocks into the game whilst Mane ( unused sub) also wasn't 100%.

By comparison, Everton looked a very strong side. What I witnessed was an amazing defensive display with Koeman changing to 3 CBs, Yoshida who gets a lot of stick from the fans had his best game in a Saints shirt and fully deserved his goal, Toby Alderweireld back in his favored CB role was his usual super-self and dealt with Lukaku all day.

I could talk all night about each individual player, so I wont. But I would like to mention the referee, I don't like criticising referees as I appreciate they do a tough job, but todays ref was the worst I have EVER seen, there was a MINIMUM of 5 clear fouls on Shane Long and the ref gave none, one is the clearest penalty I have ever seen, Long nips infront of Jagielka and Jagielka volleys him and he gives a corner ( we scored from the corner ), there was also another clear foul on Long by Distin after about 10mins that could of been a red card for last man, and the ref waves for him to get up, he didn't give a decision for Long all day, I am 100% sure he had a personal problem with him.

Wait until you watch MoTD.

bizarre game at anfield

Liverpool dominate the first half but go in level , arsenal looked hopeless in that first half

arsenal go ahead and then borini sent off after coming on as a sub

Liverpool then equalize with just 10 men in the 6th of 9 added minutes at the end of the game
