He has played in the top 6 one game less than at 7/8, and his impact at his normal slot brought absolutely sweet FA. Stokes has batted like a tailender in all but one of his near 25 ODI matches, he has batted with no aggression in the top order, and his bowling got to the point where the captain could no longer rely on him to complete his overs, or even throw him the ball on patchy occasions.
He needs to hit more than a few innings to convince that he can be a use in either discipline at ODI level.
Stokes is a precocious talent as anyone who has seen him regularly will concur. Like most young cricketers he has to be given a specific role in the side-he's a No5 batsman and a strike bowler- and given a consistent run in that role.This applies to any aspiring talent,England don't do this and one of the main reasons for our underachieving.
