Another 50 partnership but the score is still sub-standard.

definitely but at least with the depth we have in this batting order we still have this and another couple of opportunities to get the one big partnership that might be enough to get ahead in the game

A huge cheer goes around the ground as the umpire signals the tea interval.

Moeen finally playing an innings of substance since that ton at Headingely. Much needed considering the attacks he'll be facing for the rest of the year after this Test.

Cook should finally end his century drought today. If not, he may never score a Test hundred again!

two questions for the rest of the day

can cook get to his hundred before the new ball is due ?

can cook get to his hundred before we all fall asleep ?

INSPIRATIONAL LEADERSHIP.

Feel sad for Moeen Ali. He was playing well. Not his mistake, unlike in the last Test. A big score would've been a confidence booster before facing the world class attacks. Ah, well!

What is it with England and run outs this series?

You shouldn't have any run outs at all ever in a test match but four in a couple of games is ridiculous.

Not sure inspirational leadership has much to do with it, but of course people will use it as another reason to jump on Cook.

Moeen Ali is a naturally gifted batsman. Unfortunate that he got run-out.

This is like the cricket I remember watching at various times in the 80's, and not just in terms of scoring rate:

Cook: Tavare - slow and steady to be not out at the end of day 1
Trott: Athey - old timer brought back in the hope of steadying the ship
Ballance: Hick - new kid on the block with plenty of potential
Bell: Gower - sublime player with a knack of getting out to poor shots
Root: Robin Smith - one of the few Englishmen able to play 5-day and ODIs well
Ali: Peter Willey - jack of all trades, master of none
Stokes: David Capel - fiery, unproven all-rounder picked to balance the side
Sports broadcasting media nut miscast as a hard-working family man. Or should that be the other way around?
