It's a shame that Berg hasn't really fired with the bat so far - or our middle order for that matter! - because it probably rules out us playing him at 7, with Wood coming in for Jimmy.

Good to see that we've promoted Terry above Gatting in the pecking order.

Wheater is injured, so McManus comes in for him.

Terry comes in for Jimmy, as we expected.

Fidel makes his debut in place of Briggs - slightly harsh on Briggs given how he has started the season with bat and ball, but at the same time four seamers (plus Ervine) and one spinner makes much sense at this stage of the season - and at Headingly - than three seamers (plus Ervine) and two spinners.

I probably would of picked Wood today, strengthen the batting, looks like Smith will open.

McManus got a centuries in each innings of a non FC friendly last season. He got a stumping and a couple of catches against us in the t20 friendly last week (when we allowed him to play for Dorset).

My friend who has played against both of them says that McManus is the vastly better batter, and that his wicket-keeping has come on a fair bit in the last 18ish months. He suspects it is why we were happy to let Bates go. And of course, whilst on the subject on Bates, we've obviously proven that we put as much faith (if not, more faith) in a wicket-keepers batting than their keeping.

Isn't McManus an opening bat ?? wonder if he will today and then Terry for Wheater won't affect the batting order.

Team sheet has Smith opening and Carbs at 3 which baffles me ( unless Carbs WANTS to bat at 3 )
