I went for a walk when root got out. Cook was on 90odd. Came back an hour an a half later and cook was on 117, and stokes was on 77.

I'm not certain Cook really knows what he wants to do. It feels like one minute "lets go for it, this is a piece of cake". Then it's "oh we might lose this lets shut up shop".

New Zealand missed a trick yesterday and I think England have missed one today. Cooks strike rate of 46.50 could be a little better considering he should be trying to win this test match. His mindset seems to be trying not to lose.

The Kiwis are not doing that much better mind you. McCullum suffering from a hangover of cricket perhaps, but I think this just typifies the way these two teams go about their business. Don't lose, but then if the opportunity presents itself take all credit for a win.
