Personally, it would be Stokes who cops it imo

Surely it would be Rashid, don't need three spinners in the side.

I hope they give the likes of Billings and Roy a decent run in the side to see what they can do, both have shown some promise against decent opposition.

This pick makes a mockery of the county system

Looking at Craig Overton's first class form, maybe England are having a look at him with a view of being selected for The Ashes. By that I mean seeing what he does in training rather than actually playing any ODIs.

Send a bloody selector to Taunton and have him play against real batsman in a professional match. I think this is a better indicator then sending him and Finn to bowl at cardboard cut outs

Its a live ODI series England can win, not a crèche!!! Unless he deserves to be considered to play, which lets be fair, he is as deserving as most county second XI players or U-19 teams, then pick him for a test squad if you want to look at him.

Which Overton is better? I get the feeling from this board, that we're not on to our version of the Waugh twins.

All this chopping and changing and consideration of different bowling options is just demonstrating what a complete dearth of decent bowlers (spin and pace) there are in England at the moment.

Jamie gets more hype, as a very tall, fast bowler. Craig actually does better though, and is a better bat.

Slight difference bowling in County Cricket and The Ashes, just ask Simon Kerrigan! The coaching staff might as well have a look to see what Craig can do whilst England are in action and make an advanced decision.

Don't have strong feelings about this, but if they just want to have a look, then they could do that any time, preferably when their county is not playing. If they are going to be called up, I'd guess there is intention to consider them for the team. I hope there won't be any Flower type tick boxing and personality analysis going on.

Article in one of this mornings papers suggested that if England lose the series tomorrow then both Wood & Stokes could be rested for the final game at CLS and both the Overtons could play. Think it also mentioned that if they do play it'll only be the second time they've played together in a one day game.

Shane Warne took 1/150 on test debut, and at one point averaged over 250 per wicket at the start. Murali averaged nearly 60 in his first series. Graeme Swann got 5 overs and was dropped for 8 years, the only spinner in English history worthy of mention previously to Swann, Derek Underwood, took 1/170 in his first two tests.

Kerrigan's poor start means absolutely nothing, but it does show how much all those A tours he was called up before his test cap and all the "advanced decisions" made by the coaching staff about his ability having seen him amounted also to....nothing. He got 8 overs in a test and they never picked him again, preferring a part timer with an average over ten runs a wicket more than him to fulfill his role.

What is the point of selections like this? If they "like the look of him" and he doesnt suddenly produce form evidence suggests he is incapable of, then they will just drop him like a stone. County cricket at least proves that a player is worth sticking with, is worth "a look".

With two bowlers dropped and now three injured, England are naturally going to be further down the list of bowlers. And when there are injuries it is not their fault they are chopping and changing.

But would certainly be nice to have some more obvious options to call up though.

It was the way he bowled, not just his figures. And it did really knock his confidence. But I also hope they haven't made up their mind on him.

A lot of home fans will be up there wanting to see them in an England shirt. They'll be disappointed if they don't.

Yes, especially after Onions was not selected for the CLS Ashes test.
