With players like Ince, Adams, Platt, Gascoigne, Shearer and Sheringham I thought we matched up pretty favourably against the other teams in the tournament and being at home counted for a lot, plus we had the best football songs to boot.

Good. Sterling, Chamberlain, Barkley, Wilshere, Jones, and no doubt others. Is Shaw really injured? Southgate and the FA should at the very least have called them up. Every single one of them. If they turned round and rejected the call, then fine - no doubt the media would then do some good for once, and hang those players out to dry.

Yet again we have missed a glorious chance to help the senior team. Fast forward five years, and you'll be able to count on one hand how many of these U21s have played ten games for the senior team. In which case what on earth is the point of them playing?

I've never bought into this 'greatest goal' nonsense. The only reason he scored that second goal was because the England players heads were utterly scrambled at the sheer injustice 2 minutes earlier. Without the handball goal, he doesn't get to score that second goal, for me. One of the England defenders would have stopped him. I'm believe that absolutely, and nothing will change my mind.

Agree. Our players looked like they were standing still. If that happened before the goal one of our defenders would have clogged him.

Incidentally, years after Maradona said he could have never scored that goal against any other team than the English, because they were the only team that didnt set out to kick ten bells of shite out of him. He called the English team "the most noble and honest in the world"

These are no longer U21 players, they are in the full team and have full playing careers. You cant expect 20 year olds to be playing in every match available, you have to limit their games. Wilshere for instance is always injured, Sterling had to be rested in the Premier League year....

There is no definitive footage that I've ever seen that conclusively proves that Maradona got the final touch.

I know Terry Butcher (not Gary Stevens) has said that he didn't get a touch and that he would love to take the glory away from Maradona, but I reckon he doesn't want to take responsibility for scoring the goal that effectively knocked England out the World Cup.
