Table looking alot healthier for Hants even though we're still bottom. Somerset have a game in hand although out of the teams in the mix they are the only team we can affect as we have to play them at Taunton.

Wait was that Mclaren won't be here till September? So we'll only be fielding 1 overseas in Arafat for the t20 on Friday then? What's this about having to play in the group stages of the competition to play in the KO's that Kevan James was talking about on solent, there's been a few cases of overseas being pulled in for the KO's in previous years if I remember correctly.

You now have to have featured earlier in the competition to be able to play in a SF or F. But there's nothing to stop a side playing a new signing in a QF.

That said, Bird or no Bird, he wouldn't have played on Friday. Especially not with Fidel back.

Briggs, Wood and Arafat are obviously certainties to play in the bottom four (with Smith and potentially Slug in the top seven). The other place will either go to Berg, Fidel or Crane. Never Bird.

Is the 2 point deduction immediate or , as usually happens, for next year?

Seems as if the points deduction is a suspended penalty & will be applied next year if they produce another poor pitch.

Glamorgan website reports Glamorgan have been stripped of the 1pt they were awarded for the game,deducted a further 2 pts[b]this season[/b]and Hants awarded the 2 pts for the game.

Sounds like the fact that it was a second offence has led to a serious penalty rather than another slap in the wrist.

It seems that both are the answer. A two point deduction this season, plus a suspended two point deduction next season. So basically a poor pitch for them next season will cost them four points, not just two.

I'm pleasantly surprised to see us awarded the win. Certainly helps us with qualification - we can arguably now focus as much on trying to get a home QF, as getting a QF place full stop.

First things first though. Friday's t20 QF up first. And given the run we're on in all competitions - but in particular the confidence gleaned from this four day win - I think you'd back us to get the job done. Even if Worcs prepare a pitch to suit Moeen and Ajaml, well we're have Briggs, Smith and possibly Crane.

I see that Ervine was fielding today, which is very positive looking ahead to these upcoming limited overs game over the next nine days.

Interestingly, Worcs and Sussex both have Somerset still to play too. With Somerset's other game being away to Yorkshire! (Them, us and Sussex all have Yorkshire to still play, so slight advantage Worcs in that respect. In fact, almost amazingly, Sussex still have to play Yorkshire twice - with their other two games being Somerset and Worcs).

Saturday is reserve day if it's a total washout. But (almost certainly) it wouldn't then be shown on Sky.

Ordinarily I would rather a total washout, than the game be reduced to a five or six over thrash. But actually in this instance, I'm not so sure.

1. There's only limited damage that Ajmal can cause in one over.
2. Unless Whiteley gets going, I think we have more power to cause damage over such a short period than they do.
3. Unless Slug is fit (which I am hopeful of - he scored a century for the 2nd XI today), then we'll again be going in with very little batting after our top four. But coping with just four batsman should be easier over a shorten period, than over the full 20 overs.

If Friday and Saturday are complete wash-outs, then it's a bowl-off. Somerset and Lancs had that unfortunate fate a few years back.

I think my team would be Carberry, Vince, Wheater, Shah, Ervine, Dawson, Smith, Wood, Arafat, Briggs, Fidel.

But, given Dawson's really good bowling recently, I'm happy to accept that there's a case of playing Berg (or Adams, if he wants to get back into t20) rather than Fidel. Maybe slightly harsh on Crane, but with Ervine, Dawson and Fidel now available (and Briggs a shoo-in for t20), I can't see room for him in the side.

Latest forecast I've seen is rain from about midnight tonight, all the way through until 4pm. And then completely clear thereafter. So might come down to just how wet the ground is, as to whether we get a game.

And that is indeed the XI.

Worcs have won the toss and elected to bowl. The forecast wouldn't suggest further rain, so I'm not sure that that's a D/L based decision. I guess it's more that even though the rain has stopped, conditions right now are no doubt good for bowling. So could be a massive toss for them to win.

Shows just how well we have started, and how desperate they are to get rid of one of these two, that Ajmal has bowled two of his four overs inside the first five overs. Massive plus for us.
