Broad is at his best when he's bowling top of off on a 4th stump line, is there an argument to say that, like Cook, his form is actually better when he's not having to improvise in pyjama cricket?

The same is also true of Ian bell when he was brought back into ODI cricket a few years ago, his defensive technique seems to have dissappeared and he seems to get bowled a lot now

He did well in the ODIS but it has cost him his test form even now he has been dropped

I disagree. Watson brings a great deal to the One Day side. (generally) tight bowling and his batting is far more reliable than in test cricket. Decent strike rate as well.

I have long been a critic of him as a test player, but for one dayers, I'd have him as opener - he isn't adaptable with his batting style to be lower down the order, imo.

Agree with that GJ - he's a bit like Guptil in that respect - plus there is the added bonus of his bowling.

Trouble with resting players is that the ECB pretty much committed to prioritising ODIs after the WC. Which means they are committed to prioritise everything. But arguably, England should just go ahead with the younger players anyway. And against NZ, apparently Bayliss asked for eleven good fielders, which doesn't really include Broad.

I've always thought of Broad as a pretty good fielder.

i would imagine moeen will be coming into the team which will mean either jason roy or sam billings will lose there place

i cant imagine they will drop rashid given that they will be relying on him to bowl plenty of overs in the UAE, i just hope he bowls 3 or 4 MPH faster than he has when i have seen him before

i would drop roy, i think he has serious technical issues that will be exploited by international bowlers even in 50 over cricket
