Looks to me like he put his arm up to defend himself and instinctively followed it. Reminds me of the Paul Collingwood thing with a run out against New Zealand several years ago, might be out by the letter of the law but I think there's a lot of doubt involved. Colly was castigated for that decision.

If he's trying to "catch" it, he's attempted the catch in an odd way.

Looks to me that his main movement is to turn and dive back into his crease, whilst his left arm has naturally moved around as he twisted but also up, probably defensively.

The slow motion replays aren't very helpful - doesn't reflect the quick reaction.

I'd say there is definitely enough doubt regarding evasive action to leave that as a "not out" decision. But as an England fan I'm biased.

None as obstructing the field isn't credited to anyone on the fielding side.

I think giving him not out would of set an awful precedent, that and the fact that ball wasn't in immediate danger of hitting him, makes it a right decision in my book.

But Starc was within his rights to hurl it, and it was going to hit the stumps and run him out

It's like an accidental handball being given a penalty. Technically it shouldn't be given but at the end of the day it is a clear obstruction.

I can understand why an umpire would give it out or not out, just a matter of opinion really.
