one game to go in the home international summer, been a pretty weird summer of cricket

after a pretty high quality, exciting series against NZ, especially the ODIs, we had a fairly disappointing test series against Australia with poor quality cricket and 5 very one sided games and now an ODI series that feels a bit tired especially with all the missing aussies

would probably have preferred the NZ part of the summer to be a bit longer, maybe one more test at least, and do away with some of these ODIs

don't know if this should be in its own thread , AC usually does those retrospective style threads better than I can

Why not have Tests (2/3) - Tri Series ODIs - Tests (5/4)

supposedly the broadcaster and venues aren't keen on tri-series as the matches involving the 2 "away" teams aren't very well attended or watched

Big game player. Stuart Broad is much the same, he was pretty poor in the RLODC semi the other week.

At the risk of over enthusiastically championing James Taylor, it looked like a nicely contrasting hitting innings from the rotation of the strike ton in Manchester. Hard to get him and Root in the team, but I'd guess eventually these two will be at 3&4.

I just watched a replay of Maxwell's catch on/over the boundary line. I thought that it wasn't a fair catch, as when he re-took the ball, he came from outside the field without putting at least one foot back on the field of play.

Not that it affected the result but it may well matter to whoever it was he 'caught'.

Yes, I was thinking that. I presume there was discussion on tv/radio during play- I only saw the highlights. Bit of a howler by the tv ump if this is right.

yeah I mentioned this at the time , I thought after going outside the field of play he had to re-establish himself in the field of play before he can touch the ball again

Like you, I know little about him, Rich. I only knew of him through the Big Bash last season.

The cricket is very much an also-ran in sports news atm - besies being a one day series after a disappointing Ashes series, we have just started footie finals series - in both the Rugby League and Aussie Rules.

This is occupying many column inches and peoples' thoughts.
