I watched very less batting innings of Thorpe, Hick and that time batsmen. In fact very few cricket matches. One innings i liked was Naseer Hussain boring South Africans scoring somewhat 130+ of 400+ balls. I remember that innings and i liked it because it was very determined and patient knock. But Naseer did not convert tons into big innings like Cook and KP. Neither did other English batsmen whom i saw in some innings. Also the one test match when one English captain (Naseer?) and Hansie? was declaring without any batting innings.

The pitch will probably deteriorate further tomorrow. There's merit in England lasting as long as possible though. Given the situation, to go into the last session would be a good effort.

Yes, that was Nas and Cronje.

My lifetime England batting is Boycott/Gooch/Trott/Pietersen/Thorpe/Stewart (wk). But I'm going to have to get Root in at some point. Which looks tricky. Sometimes Gower gets in at three ahead of IJLT.

Good thing about Joe is that like Cook and KP he is comfortable against spin which is not the case with most England batsmen. So the places he is touring won't get him bad series. His form only will decided whether he is playing well or not. Also, good against pace. Not major technical flaws as well. So he as well has the potential of scoring doubles like Cook, KP.

Wahab knocks the ball with his boot twice but don't think he trod on it at all.

I saw the incident on SKY amd he kicked two or three times with his foot and when Root complained to him he kept showing his hands as if suggesting he didn't want to handle the ball because I presume they were sweaty.

Feels more likely that the umpires wanted to talk to England about Root's accusation. Comments by Farbrace to the press seem to imply that too. Going on that footage, Root might owe Wahab an apology.

this is test cricket anything can happen (well apart from an england win)

if england can bat out the first 45 minutes without losing a wicket it can be done

the turn looked slow today and yasir shah was getting considerably less turn than rashid who was turning it square and was still being played with ease the pitch is so slow

england teams of old with a 5/6/7 of collingwood, bell and prior would have had a good chance of the draw

bairstow, stokes and buttler maybe not so much

root basically has to bat at the very least the first two sessions
