On TMS today, Tuffers picked out Viv as one of the great shorter batters.

Greig, KP and Clive Lloyd were very tall, but not really greats.

5' 10" is above average.

Bradman, Lara, Sachin are three names that spring to mind.

Barry Richards looked quite tall, often called a great. Martin Crowe?

Hayden must count as a great. How many openers average over 50?

Suggestion that although he can't bowl he might still be able to bat.


Can't be as bad as feared then.

I always thought that 5ft 10 ins was the average height of a UK male, which is my height, which fits as I'm bang average at everything. Turns out it's gone up by an inch in the last 30 years or so, therefore I'm now officially like James Taylor.

Gilchrist must be considered an all time great just as a cricketer- tall for a batsman and w/k at 6' 1".

A major influence in changing the way the game is played.

Good to hear our batsman got stuck in today - hindsight is a wonderful thing but many would have had Taylor in from the start.

Hales too probably.

What one might call the long and the short of it.
