I'll never agree with that. Bell walked off because he thought the ball would go for four. It didn't. He stupidly walked off the ground when the ball was live. I don't understand why England thought the decision should be reversed. Strauss and Flower had no reason to put pressure on the Indians to change their minds, apart from self interest and arrogance.

Other sides have engaged in sharp practice, of course they have. SA haven't been a likable side. Last summer there seemed to be a recognition that England had become unappealing to their own supporters because of how they were playing the game. I hope they haven't forgotten.

Bell was drawn into believing it was a boundary by the antics of the fielder who dived and pushed the ball toward the boundary and he thought it had touched the rope. It was only when he got his feet that he saw it was not touching the rope but even his throw was not urgent. Of course Bell should have waited for the umpire to call dead ball but it was the last delivery before tea and that added to his problem. He was rightly given out but it would have been a pretty sad way to get a wicket.
