Sure their net run rate is lower than WI or SA at present ; but if they win against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan that run rate is going to rise - and it doesn't take much to move a run rate in t20 games. I'd fancy three wins will see a team through most of the time in any case : will get clearer as we go on but I reckon it is too early to be making bold predictions about the shape of the finals.

For NRR to come into play:

WI: Win 1 Lose 1, current NRR 0.89, likely to increase as win against Afg probably heavier than loss against SA
SA: Win 2 Lose 0, current NRR 0.82, will increase increase with 2 wins.
Eng: Win 2 Lose 0, current NRR -0.41, will increase with 2 wins, but will need to be large victories to overtake their rivals.

Additionally WI and SA play their final group games after us, so if the NRR scenario comes into play, both will know exactly what is required at the start of the second innings.

Giving Dawson the nod ahead of one of Toppers and Jordan seems pretty low risk to me. It would be hard to go for more runs than them, based on the first couple of matches.

Given how awful our seamers have been I can't see how Dawson could possibly do any worse

Has he ever opened the bowling for Hampshire in T20?

I think Bayliss said he'd never seen Dawson. It's possible that he's not impressing the coaches in the nets.

England will still have three seamers even if they do pick Dawson. It's not as if they would have to experiment. They could bowl pace in the PP, and at the end if they want to. Though they could be better off mixing it up.

if i was picking the team it would be topley and jordan out

from the little I've seen, Topley is bowling in the wrong place but he is bowling roughly in the same wrong place

Jordan, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have a clue where the ball is going to go from one delivery to the next.

drop Jordan, pick Dawson, tell Toppers to bowl in a different place... preferably a better place. left arm does give a different dimension if it can be harnessed... if he hasn't been damaged by the battering he's been taking
