It seems England's biggest problem is always trying to accommodate every big name player. And as soon as they get a player that is best suited behind the striker they play them out on the left. Thinking Scholes, Young Gerrard and Lampard. And now it seems Ali.

Ali links up well with Kane. He did really well against the world champions, so Roy don't put him out on the left, play him where he is the most effective. Rooney to the bench......... Simple really.

I'd be going for guys that look like they give a shite. The two full backs were the only players to fall into that category last night, plus Vardy but he didn't get a touch all evening.

I know he is not up to much talent wise but Henderson does give his all and so would Drinkwater and Townsend but they aren't there.

Players like Milner, Wilshere, Sturridge and the like aren't interested and Rooney is too slow.

It's all a bit of a mess going into the tournament. Roy is struggling for his best eleven and his best formation and there is a distinct lack of cohesion and understanding in the team right now.

We're so far off from winning the thing that we probably will. I certainly have zero expectation for us doing anything at all. Wouldn't be surprised if Wales beat us.

England have a potentially really good team. Roy just needs to pick a formation that works, with the players that works. He didnt last night, and until Wilshere and Sterling came on, England did nothing. When Rooney went off and with the others on the field, England suddenly sprang into life.

I dont really want to say more though, because I will no doubt suffer the wrath of difference in opinion. I think most England fans have no clue about football tactics and what not. The suggestion England weren't bothered baffles me a lot. Everyone was trying. But you cant play a striker way past his best in midfield. You cant play Jamie Vardy in a system that isnt direct. You cant play two strikers like Kane and Vardy together. You dont put an advanced playmaker on the left hand side, and you dont put someone as immobile as Milner on the wing in a diamond system.

But no..... Vardy touched the ball 4 times in 80 minutes and his only noticeable contribution was fouling three people needlessly.... he is obviously better than Sterling, who assisted the goal brilliantly, and set up Danny Rose for the perfect position to attack the box.

People have been trying to solve the riddle of why the England football team hasn't done anything of any significance in the last fifty years but have got nowhere.

Not technically good enough.

Bunch of overpaid primas.

Season too long.

No winter break.

Premier League style cannot translate to internationals.

Don't play the right formations.

Players aren't interested in playing for the National team.

I don't get some of the formations and tactics used in football so for a bunch of ill educated half wits to catch on is asking too much in my opinion. They can just about cope with one style for their clubs but asking them to fit in to a new formation for their country and gaining an understanding with a different teammates is way too much for the poor darlings.

And Sterling is crap I don't care what you say.

And if to back up my point about Sturridge, he seems more interested that his kit smells nice before a game, as he likes to spray copious amounts of perfume/cologne over it before he goes out to play. Not to mention the body shop strawberry moisturiser he uses!

Sturridge is 20 times the player that Vardy is. If Sturridge wasnt made of glass, he would probably be England's best player by some distance. 45 goals in 69 games for Liverpool, and in half he has been coming back from full fitness.

I couldn't agree with you more, but his main problem is issues in his head, and paranoia about his fitness.

The goal he scored in the Europa League final was genius, but in the same game, there were times when he just didn't make the effort to get to a 50 50 ball, I expect because he's worried about injuring himself or he has to be sure in his mind that he will get to the ball comfortably and looking cool at the same time. Running for the bus syndrome!
