Ali I will say is that the punishment should have been the same for all players or none at all.
one side getting warning and the other with fine and an actual punishment, again goes with the motion that ICC are never consistent with these situation.

ICC are really baffling with Sledging/aggression they wanna reduce it since they think it creates to many hot moment like in the 2nd odi and the samuels situation but at the same time they allow it to happen with odd punishment and only telling the match referee to get strict in certain series.

So far the only series ICC have warned that sledging or aggression will not be tolerated are the Ashes, India vs Aus and ICC events and even then ICC did nothing when Stokes/Samuel had a show in the ICC final.

Also not sure what series Arthur been watching, NZ might be playing in a nice way, But india not changed their way, ok maybe sledging not happening to a massive level, but they not exactly playing in the sprit of cricket, excessive appealing, running in the wicket etc.

Although did like Ross Taylor swearing in hindi, that made Virat kohli laugh in the field.

Now the Guardian reporter is calling Bayliss the voice of reason...

I'm feeling myself getting dragged back in time. A hologram of Paul Downton is robotically intoning, welcome back Mr Crabtree. We've been expecting you.

Kevin Pietersen limbers up, lazily tossing a golf ball against the wall of his cell.

Giles Clarke puts on his devil mask to hide his own hideous visage from the gaze of the world...
I always say that everybody's right.

Fair enough. Good post.

I had read some India fans saying India had been playing in a good spirit...

It isn't just England you know!

But England players/press/some fans constantly criticise the opposition for their conduct. But are reluctant to extend it to themselves. That's bias, or hypocrisy. Ok perhaps for a fan, not so much for a journalist or official.

You say that England fans constantly criticise the opposition for their conduct, but if this forum is a good cross section of England fans, then that doesn't appear to be the case. In fact I would go so far as to say that England fans are much more critical of their own teams and players behaviour than other nations.

Weirdly enough it Is ICC punishment that creates more needle between players.
IE a lot of players around the test nations feel England don't get the same treatment, again the same goes with Australia and then you get Australia/English and to a lesser exent SA feeling the Asian players get away with things a lot because of the Asian bloc.
And finally the poorer test nations feel like the big 3 get away with more things than other teams.

So what you actually end up with is players think ICC is biased and unfair in punishment.

Funny thing is that the media not even correct, Buttler did get punished and wasn't a warning but the only difference was that Buttler didn't get a fine.

All players got one demerit point and if any player reaches 4 they miss one test, two odi or two T20 which ever comes first.

Sabbir Rahman got 3 pt, mortaza 1 and Buttler 1 and Jadeja got 3.

This system started on the 22th September.
Not sure why the bangladeshi players got a fine and buttler didn't or why Stokes isn't included in this or Tamim Iqbal for the matter.

If it was me adjudicating bad behaviour in a sporting arena, I'd always come down more heavily on those that caused a particular incident.

Now I imagine that the two Bangladesh players may have cited other issues in the two matches which caused them to react in the way they did, but at the end of the day it is one particular incident which is under scrutiny.

Plus as I've previously said, the onus should be on the host nation to set an example expecially with a partisan crowd behind them, and the security issues surrounding this series in the background.

Action like the last match are probably 90% of the reason I dislike him. For a player to have the audacity to bowl the worst over in cricket history, then write a particularly nasty article about a guy who ended up helping win Windies the World Cup with a sensational comeback innings.... there is no class in that. Samuels celebrated, but if it was Stokes playing that innings or anyone they would have. What Samuels (a) did at the other end to keep windies in the game and (b) what he witnessed, which was arguably for the neutral won of the best, if not the best, conclusions to a sporting contest in history..... I can forgive Windies players who 2 minutes earlier thought they had all but lost to lose their mind. Id expect any single player to do that. Does anyone really think England wouldnt have gone mad if they hit 4 sixes in 4 balls in the last over to win a game against huge odds.

His response, to fault a guy for not taking his pads off, was pathetic. It smacked of him being an entitled brat...which I think he is.

I was watching the American Football last night, and there was a large discussion about player conduct going on. The NFL changed rules recently regarding "personal fouls" due to player conduct. Nowadays, if you make a gesture to insult a player, if you go out of your way to touch or argue with an opposite number, or if you in anyway over celebrate then you can expect a penalty flag to be thrown. Although people seem to argue it takes something out the game, what it has definitely done has taken basically a lot of this overt aggressive behaviour to opposition out too. And the game is much better without the handbags at dawn every time there is a tackle.

Id be much more akin to umpires being able to subtract 10 or 20 runs from a total at their will to stop it. At the very least I think we need to outline a consistent policy in the game to address what is normal sledging, and what is too far.

One thing I will always credit Stokes with, over and above all his undoubted faults, is the fact he experienced that over, and came through the other side.

I rate him as a cricketer too. And I certainly get punching locker doors!!

I suppose you could argue that the same level of emotion that fed Samuels' celebration, was present in Stokes' reaction to it. You'd hope both sides would pay regard to a little bit of Kipling- there is lack of humanity in not recognising how your triumph provokes their disaster.

My guess is the Sky coverage attempts to cover over the unsporting behaviour of the England team. I read a post about Atherton writing about the poor behaviour of Stokes, Buttler and Root, but they never seemed to touch on this on Sky, when I had it.

TBH is not even sky but in general the english media to play down the behaviour.
Even the serious Anderson/Jadeja spat was played down.

TBH ICC needs to walk the talk with the sledging and aggression since they doing nothing and anger/behaviour is increasing in the international game because of it and a lot of it could be stopped.

Well it wasnt the celebration that was the problem, Stokes (and the English press) jumped on the "he will never learn" comment he made. Out of context it might sound cocky and rude, but he went onto explain that Stokes always targets him, and that when he does it makes him more determined to beat him. So in sledging him, all Stokes is doing is making Samuels play out of his skin..... so maybe Stokes should keep his mouth shut and Samuels might not be so focused.

Samuels maybe has a point... he averages over 50 vs England in tests, and 46 in T20s

The reason the punishment was different for the two Bangladesh players is because it was judged that their behaviour started the confrontation and Buttler reacted. So they were punished more for that reason.

1-1 draw should be seen as an embarrassment for the team.
it says something that the english players/Chairman are the sole reason that WI actually bothered to play good cricket in a series in any format in a bilateral series.

Really that should be enough reason for players not to sledge or be agressive to any WI players so they gee up Samuels or other WI players.
Actually in the last 5 yrs can't remember the last time WI actually played crap against England.

So in World cricket WI only turn up against England and ICC event that says everything you need to know about England sledging or Stokes.

WI are no saints, but surely sledging WI is stupid if it backfiring.
it all goes to Hussain point you never sledge Tendulkar/Lara or players that go to another level when sledged, really the current England team should follow that.

At the moment you can put England vs Sri lanka 2014 and the West indies series where england sledging or aggression caused the other team to unite and play better in the crunch situation.
although in the WI series, Graves started the process.
