Moeen and Bairstow looking very comfortable but they must remain watchful.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Still a couple of batters to come in and a pair of ok tail enders (given Broad won't be facing any chin music), so England starting to look handily placed. Unless the pitch has changed, but the info seems to be that this is a good bowling pitch.

Mehedi gets his fourth! Moeen out for an important 68...this youngster is getting some useful turn.

I suppose the unknown factor is how his injuries would have held up. He's injured now. Apart from KP, they haven't replaced Strauss, Trott and Bell either. Root comes in nicely for Colly, so at least that's one shirt filled. Bairstow is doing well for Prior, with the bat at least.

88 added by JB2 and Mo, good effort by them.

Such a lack of progress from the development players being introduced in the side, but no one ever questions that. Its always someone elses fault.

England have unprecedented levels of interference with players development now, but there is so little evidence that any of this works, its time they really changed it.

Query if they should dig in and make sure these two are together for the new ball, or have a hit given they won't survive it. The former clearly, but interesting hour ahead.

Well done JB2 for the second half ton of the innings. Averaging 77 since UAE, and the top scorer in Tests since the start of the SA tour.

Bairstows luck ends. Mehedi has a 5 for on debut.

It was a poor innings really. He got dominated and should have been out several times..... but I guess he was sharp enough to punish the bad balls he got

That dismissal of Bairstow we've seen before, playing cross bat to a straight delivery.
