It occurs to me that in the last Test every member of the side had a First Class century to their name, surely that can't have happened very often in Test cricket.

Woakes is surely a better bat than Ballance.

What is the point of Finn in this team?

Will do nothing with the ball, and hopeless with the bat.

England are desperate for Finn to come good for some reasons, a good example of the sunk cost fallacy.

I'd have thought that Ball really deserved the place on this tour.

That said, it doesn't help when Rashid takes a single off the first ball of an over with the number 11 at the other end.

I think criticising Rahim for his captaincy is unfair, he tried the pace and other bowlers because his top 3 were not troubling the batsman with the soft ball and looking weary, he had little choice but to try something different when Woakes and Rashid looked so secure.

Finn looked good in the nets, apparently.

He's always been inconsistent. But without his pace and bounce, he's not that bowler who had the amazing strike rate. This is a pitch with enough in it for Stokes to strike two batters on the helmet. Finn needs to make it awkward for BD short of a length.

Only watching the highlights, but Tamim looked exceptional in the first innings. Don't agree Mo bowled poorly. He bowled the odd bad ball, but plenty of great deliveries.

With Rashid scoring those valuable runs, have to assess how that offsets the frequent bad balls he bowls, and all the spinners bowl, and the pressure they release, against the runs they score.

Well done Woakes and Rashid.

England must not let these two get going, early wickets pretty much the order of the day.

Is there a way we can find a place for Rashid in the Test side outside of the sub continent? He's going to have some very good days with the ball, but when he doesn't he'll chip in with good runs. I'd like to see him as a mainstay.

Didn't Finn have a good series in an ODI series in India a while ago and since then is seen by the selectors and most pundits as good for Asian conditions.

Maybe move Stokes to five, then Bairstow, Woakes. Bairstow is certainly a top six bat, and Woakes shouldn't be at nine. As Splinters says, might have batted ahead of Ansari. Players need to be promoted to their level of competence. As I often said, Prior didn't get the career he deserved batting at seven for England, given he could bat at six, even five in Asia.

That was his absolute peak. He got injured before the NZ series, started messing around with his run up (and for whatever reason, maybe including confidence) he never quite recovered. A long time ago now.

He says he's not a quick bowler. But it seems if he's not bowling high eighties, he's not bowling that well.

Good start from Finn, putting absolutely no pressure on the BD openers.
