Ather think he played like that since he was scared of getting the pad front of the bat.
DRS pressure and the good bowling probably made Cook scared of getting LBW.

Stokes impressed me the most in this series.
batted well, even if it doesn't look pretty, he generally found a way of scoring runs and is doing the basic of playing late and reacting to what happens on the pitch and not what the bowler doing plus is bowling improved loads as well.

really from this series only Stokes and possibly Bairstow if he win this test get any credit on this tour.
the rest have been awful or under par.

TBH won't surprise me if it was a gameplan from bayliss etc to score the 130 odd runs quickly rather than dot dot dot single dot dot etc.
