Remember Herschelle Gibbs in the 1999 World Cup Semi final.... did the same thing to Steve Waugh early, and then Waugh I believe scored about 120 and knocked them out.

Leading to the now famous retort from Waugh telling Gibbs he had just dropped the World Cup

Sounds like one of those situations where he looked more out in slow motion.

Can't the bloody umpires make a decision on the field without referring it these days?

Interesting moment. Not surprised the catch was allowed to stand , but Yadav could have had no complaints if it had been overturned.
Whether or not he had complete control , tossing it up - and then attempting to retrieve it when he realized it had escaped his grasp , even turning around to do so - rather telegraphed that he wasn't sure himself. Another day , another umpire...who knows ?

India will be glad of the breakthrough.

Runs have dried up now. Stokes one off fourteen is a stat you don't see too often...

Playing for the close of play, and playing to the situation for once. Puts a bad ball away, blocks the rest.... this is how he should play.

Oh yeah ...not complaining. Just that he is not normally so patient. Has had some good balls at him too , which makes a difference.

Is it possible even you , Sussex , think he is improving ?

I was just thinking about the Gatting "catch " at Lord's in the 1985 Ashes ...then I see someone on Cricinfo referencing it.

Similar in a way. Remember thinking not out was correct on that occasion. By the letter of the law , I think any premature celebration is rightly a big risk.

Just been reading the same thing. I remember Border scoring a big ton but not that moment.

I think if he attempted to retrieve it and couldn't, that's it, ...not out.

Forget all the replays and how long he had it in his hands b0llocks.

If you are looking to retrieve the catch then you ain't ever been in full control, which is what the law states.

A question of how long it will last. One Yadav inswinger nearly got through his poor footwork defence, and he just tried to have a bit of a swipe at one this over.

Just as I type he again tries to pull a ball way too full.

And then is beaten trying to do it again and gets lucky... and then Mishra beats him....

Stokes plays well for a few overs, goes into attack mode, and has survived two balls that could get him.
