3-0 and we were rubbish, I barely watched the last half hour!

Didnt Taylor also have Seaman, Adams, Keown, Barnes.

Any of those would walk into this team

Barnes plus Lineker were imo past their best.

He also had Ince.

Barnesy could never throw off the shackles when he played for country, always took the easy option, didn't take enough risks or trust in his ability at the top level. One of the best players at club level for Watford and Liverpool I have ever seen. Bottled it a bit when he put on an England shirt.

Hoddle, Le-Tiss, Barnes, Gazza. Four of the most talented players we've had, yet none of them were great for England. Gazza had his moments, like Barnes, but neither had great international careers.

Therein lies England's biggest problem over the last 40 odd years, top players who can't take their club form onto the international stage. Is it down to the manager, or are they not bright enough to fit into formations that differ to what they're used to at club level.

flattering result that doesn't reflect the performance. For 50 mins Scotland were the better team. I lost track of the number of times they carved England's defence open, only to stuff it up.

In the Euro's England were decent all over the pitch, but absolutely hopeless in front of goal. Here they were decent in front of goal and hopeless everywhere else.

Sturridge took his goal well, so if he is to be the no.1 choice for lone striker, then England will be fine................................ as long they end up in a WC finals group with Scotland, Malta and San Marino.

Atm, England's only rays of sunshine are the 2 full backs, who continue to impress me (although Rose needs to stop being a tart in the box... leave that sort of pathetic embarrassing stuff to the South American players).

Southgate will get his contract, I think, because they've been looking for an excuse to give it to him, but if this is an example of his work, then that is cause for concern........still......... no goals conceded yet in the group

Maybe there is merit in appointing Gareth Southgate as manager on a permament basis. Someone who has coached a core of the players at U21 level, has experienced failure as an international player and no skeletons in the cupboard (as far as we know) for the media to get into.

If England fail to get to Russia, so be it. The higher levels of domestic football is rotten as it is and wants massive reform if England are to seriously compete in international competition.

Nani wins a penalty for Portugal against Latvia but aside from that Portugal have not been particularly impressive.

Just switched on, ten seconds later Vardy scores with a bullet header.

Lallana was the difference in the first half. His cross created the penalty. He scored the penalty. And when he limped off the first half lost its quality.

Vardy breaks his goal drought. England have looked good but Spain look surprisingly poor.
