not sure if this meritted its own thread so thought i'd post it here

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci-icc/cont ... 68293.html

not sure i like the idea of putting some sort of artificial cap on the number of tests that are played in a year

i accept for some countries that test cricket is a struggle financially but saying to the countries where test cricket is viable that they have to play less so we can fit in more hit and giggle cricket, internationally and domestically, is definitely not something i want to see

I don't like the idea either. Can see why the administrators might like it but I think it a bad idea.

Also don't think it will happen. There have been a lot of proposals for Test Championships and new programmes ...and none of them have got anywhere. Hopefully this one dies too.

They got 8 just from India and Australia.
Only bcci can stop the plans since both ecb and ca need a reduction in the test schedule in the summer.
Ca pushing it the most since they losing the most money if they continue to play more crap teams at test.
Ecb pushing it so they can have the 2nd most lucrative t20 competition.

Well india playing 13 home test this season.
think SA are touring as well before the india series and maybe after the winter test series at home if they do play it.
Next year SA got

Away NZ 3 test feb-april
England away 4 test
Bangaladesh 2 test October
Sri lanka 3 test dec
india 4 test
Australia 4 test

looks like with india not touring during Christmas causing issues and SA just brought Sri lanka in for the boxing day test with india getting new years or the one after that.

SA playing 20 test next yr sound crazy

ah.... but does it make money?

it's the only worthy consideration for people who organise these things, but don't have to play them

TBH no cricket series makes any money if anything they all make a loss unless india, England or for England Australia play.

this is one reason why everyone agrees the FTP needs to change and they are looking at ways to make Sri lanka vs pakistan, SA vs pakistan etc make money and worthwhile to watch.

good news it seems BT Sports have given some rights to 5.
They showing 5 big bash games.
Big Bash Cricket

Ep 1 - Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Stars

Start Boxing Day off with a bang as Channel 5 brings live Twenty20 cricket all the way from Australia’s explosive Big Bash League. The first of five exclusive live games sees the Hobart Hurricanes take on the Melbourne Stars. English eyes will certainly be drawn down under this winter as a host of English stars take their place alongside the world’s best players for the competition.

England’s own Stuart Broad, infamously hit for 36 off one over in a T20 world cup game, could be appearing for Hobart, having agreed a contract with the Hurricanes for 2016-17. Meanwhile, former England international Luke Wright could find himself accompanying a certain Kevin Pietersen at the crease for the Melbourne-based franchise.

The Stars, defeated finalists last season, will be hoping for better this year as eight franchises from across Australia will be attempting to secure domestic glory. Their opponents from Hobart endured a disappointing campaign last time out, including being bowled out for a meagre 91 against the Sydney Sixers.

So soak up the South Australian sunshine, throw the leftover turkey on the barbie, and enjoy the action as its sure to be a season full of thrills, spills, and of course, plenty of big hits and massive sixes.

very happy in principle with the main 2 changes mentioned here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/38234108

i've said for ages that batsmen able to hit boundaries so easy from mis-hits is a problem and removed an element of skill from batting

i like the idea of the red card but the three instances they suggest a red card would be used happen so rarely that it kinda defeats the point of the rule change imo

Not a bad idea- re cards. Reservations would be:

1. Whether it will be evenly enforced across nations of differing clout (look how Cook and Kohli seem to be immune to censure). Or prove another opportunity for unfairness.

2. Whether a five day game can stand for the loss of a player for several days. Maybe removal from that innings, and a further suspension after the game would be better.

3. Would the use of lawyers (as seems to be encroaching in the game) make the penalty unenforceable.
I always say that everybody's right.

Red cards are only for physical violence which rarely takes place, there's no mention of how long the card applies for, surely a 10 man team for 4 days would be a penalty against the team as much as the player. I think it's nonsense and should it be applied, as AC pointed out, the lawyers would have a field day.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.
