Id suggest that Rahul will be looking for a new job if anyone. Vijay and PP can open, slot Rahane back in the middle.

What a truly frustrating series this has been. How often does a dropped catch cost you 100s of runs in a Test match? It seems every time in this series if you are England. The scorelines have been humbling but it is easy to forget that England have been in strong positions throughout this series only to collapse or let it slip through their fingers, literally.

Indian fans will surely view runs in this series the same way we do runs against Bangladesh at home. Still there has been promising signs for England looking to the future: This could be the year that sees Moeen transition into a front line batsman filling one of the holes in the line up, well if England will allow him to do that ; Stokes has show an increasing maturity with the bat this winter, if both him and Moeen really up their batting it would make England a very decent side ; Some promising signs from Jennings and Hameed that our top order travails might finally be over, though it is far too early to close the book on that ; Rashid looks like he could be a decent spinner, just not against the best players in the world.

If we can draw this Test, I'd personally say this has been a pretty successful tour for England, given how badly I thought we'd get on.

Seems like dobell been saving this article since bangladesh.
Some paragraph basically been copied from before.
http://www.espncricinfo.com/india-v-eng ... 73453.html
not sure many of it even that true anyway.
Although what is clear at the moment is that ECB haven't really got a good system in the Domestic/Lions level in producing/picking players.

pretty obvious Dobell been waiting for england to be humiliated to write this stuff.
agree with splinters not been a bad tour would have been nice if England picked the right team/squad though sometimes they been shooting themselves in the foot.
you can't really expect to win games in india when Rashid is the most threatening bowlers and not really a surprise he lost the plot in the last 2 test when he hardly getting support in the other end.

either way one batsman with 150+ runs will get the drop.
KL Rahul quite interesting opener fails a lot of times but when he gets past 25 he gets hundreds most of the time only not got hundred twice, probably deserves more of a run than parthiv patel if you looking for the future.
Nair competing with Rahane, Rohit Sharma and maybe even Jayant yadav for a spot in the team.
he probably play another game but hard to see him playing games all the time if india still wants 5 bowlers.
might explain why the management allowed him the triple considering he might not really get many opportunities again to score a test century, unless he scores runs to keep others out of the side.

wanted to say this yesterday but didn't if I was leach I would be more annoyed not getting picked on Emotion/attitude or what ever crap ECB say about him then not being picked for cricketing reason.
I could take not being picked for cricketing reason but it is a kicking in the backside not being picked on other reason especially when the press repeat that dross after Dawson looked ordinary with the ball.
You sense that will be repeated until leach actually plays for england.

Liam Dawson has NEVER been an attacking bowler in FC cricket, hes a holding bowler, and you can argue that he did that well by bowling the most overs at 3po, whilst Ali went at 4.5 and Rashid 5+

yeah he done that job well but not sure he really justified being called up ahead of Leach or better spin options, end of the day dawson been picked to take wickets and look threatening and he not really doing that.
TBH my point was really based on how leach would feel after hearing crap like emotion and other stuff being used to justify dawson being picked ahead of him especially when the media/ECB admit leach is a better bowler and option.

As SP says Dawson has been picked as a batsman who can bowl a containing spell, and any wickets he might get are a bonus.

At least Woakes didn't play otherwise Dawson would have been picked as a batsman batting at number 9.

Dawson was fairly economical, so fair play for that. But it's true that he got to bowl at the start of the day and other sessions before the batters were settled, which represented a wicket taking opportunity. If he was just there keeping it tight, he shouldn't have bowled then, and it begs the question 'tight who for?' as being the spinner for so much of the day, he, and not the seamer he was usually paired with, was the better chance of a wicket. And if he's in the side as a batter, then he's been mis-selected as he's batting at eight, and so has to be a key spinner, otherwise, what is he doing there (same could be said of Buttler, a keeper batting as a specialist batter at seven)?

These aren't criticisms of Dawson, more so selection and captaincy. If Leach was there (who knows how he would have got on) he would at least have been there unequivocally, as a wicket taking bowler. If England just wanted a spinner to bowl dry, I think I'd rather have gone for Tredwell, who would have been a little more of a wicket taking threat.

Dawson scored more runs and took more wickets at a reasonably economical rate which is better than his record in the CC promised, what more do you want. Apparently some want the untried, unproven Leach, which follows the rule that a player out of the team is always going to do better than the one selected.
Work expands to fill the time available, so why do today what can be put off until tomorrow.

Leach would have beeen the better option to have been called up, however the selectors got the whole squad wrong in the first place, and were always trying to cover their mistakes which hasn't worked....i would be suprised if Dawson ever played another test

I think the consensus was even before the game that Dawson wasn't going to be a good pick, it's got nothing to do with how he has gone in this game. He offered no optimism, even when he was the one out of the side and someone in the side was doing badly.
