if only we had thought of that and mentioned it a few thousand times in the last couple of years

I gave up on Bayliss a long time ago and his blaming this 8 wicket collapse on playing spin poorly is laughable. They lost those wickets thorough stupid play encouraged by the constant cry from Bayliss to be positive. The situation called for calm thinking and none of them had it in them.

To be honest, you can't have it both ways. You can have an England side that will score and chase big runs but will occasionally implode - I'd say the former is far more likely than the later given scores over the last year - or you can have a side that won't do that but will play with circumspect.

But : surely once the two established batsmen, Root and Morgan , plus Buttler , had fallen ; and they needed about 15 per over , the game was effectively over ? The remaining bats had a choice between playing "sensible" cricket and losing by 30-40 runs - or having a swing and hoping to get lucky ? Messy ; and not a good look ; but it hardly means the team is rubbish or the general approach is wrong...
Everyone knows they struggle against spin. So does Australia ; so does SA - and the subcontinental teams can't handle Australian bounce , or English pitches when it seams. Not to say you shouldn't try to improve this ; but the priority is going to be settling a team that can get results in the conditions in which they play most often : in limited overs , generally pretty anodyne.
I'd put this one aside as a bad day rather than look to mess around with a team that is generally doing fairly well. Think the bowling could do with a bit of tweaking ; but Roy/Hales/Root/Morgan/Buttler/Stokes strikes me as a hard lineup to improve upon...
