My vote would be for Grimmett ahead of Gibbs. Maybe others will vote for Gibbs, or he comes in for a seamer (Gough?) or everyone moves up one?

gilchrist is obviously good enough to bat at #6 but that would leave a really long tail

I would have thought it's better to get Tom Graveney at five and move Greig down to six. Choose between Grimmett and Gibbs. Grimmett was a voracious wicket taker. Gibbs played for longer. I'll check the stats.

What to do with WG Grace. Largely a figure of myth with poor Test stats?

I'm not sure Ganguly is going to get in.

Certainly not Ashley Giles.

i knew there was someone i had meant to mention and forgotten, it was Ganguly

i was a bit surprised how poor gatting's record was, averaged barely over 35

i'd have no objection to adding graveney, i did look at him but when i thought of how strong the first batch of players i had thought of was i wasn't sure if he would make it

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine ... pe=bowling

Stats for spinners with 200 wickets. Grimmett takes it on stats. More of a strike bowler. Yet still very economical for a leggie.

I'll leave it a few days after initial reflections, then look for the stats on Gs. Unless someone else does it first.

Fastest to 200 Test wickets. Unless Ashwin beat it. I don't think he did.

Ganguly might add a poor but go to 5th bowling option. Although didn't do much in tests and stats are awful.

Greig at 6 with Gilchrist at 7 for me.

G team looks quite strong if someone with 7000 test runs can't get in.
loads of batting options for G.

Greig is a decent fifth bowler with a good record.

Ganguly would be in the limited overs side.

Would be fine for this side, but I think the alternatives are a bit stronger.

Unless perhaps you left out Gooch because he's not a three.

I would lose Gower over Gooch I think.

Me too. But at least DIG in in his right spot. Gooch doesn't get in as an opener because he's up against CGG and Sunny. Actually Gooch's record at three is good anyway in the few games he batted there.
