'Ansari has always been a bit different. During England's tour of Bangladesh, he could be seen reading a copy of the New York Review of Books by the pool while his team-mates played on their X-boxes. He named Malcolm X as a hero and Rosa Luxemburg and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie as ideal dinner guests. That's unusual from young cricketers. And not just because Adichie isn't their favourite Nigerian novelist. As Alec Stewart, his director of cricket at Surrey and a man who has known him since he was 10, put it: "Zafar used to read books in the dressing room; the others would be colouring them in."'

http://www.espncricinfo.com/england/con ... 94819.html

I quite like this guy...I also read the New York Review of Books, I have studied and appreciate Malcolm X, and while I know nothing about Adichie, I have also studied and appreciate Rosa Luxemburg.
:)
Ansari would be my ideal dinner guest....

From the Guardian.

Under the revised calculation India’s considerable contribution to the money generated by global tournaments is still recognised, earning more than double the $143m allocated to England (down from $150m) as well as the $132m for each of Australia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies and New Zealand. Zimbabwe will earn $93m, while the 39 associate nations will share $280m.

Suggestion India will either not enter the CT, or will send a B side.

Still interesting for the India fans if a B side is selected. Not entering will cause problems regarding ticket sales and getting ready an alternative side to play the fixtures (presumably WI).

My hunch is that India will send a side of some description. This article states pulling out would leave them open to legal redress. Debatable how it would go down in India if they pulled out. It could be that the public will be angry at the BCCI that their team is not competing. Or they could be angry at the ICC for this implied reduction in status and support the BCCI.

if this article is true its the associates the BCCI want to screw over, all the other full members would get the same money and all of the money earmarked for the associates would go to the BCCI

http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/ ... 94878.html

i've got even less sympathy for them now, and i didn't have much to begin with, as growing associate cricket is something the ICC should be doing more of not having the funding for them taken away to give to the richest board out there

Surprising that everyone suddenly voted against India!

I've never understood why the BCCI should have a majority of what the India public spends on ICC events.

I'd guess in football, the UK, Spain, Italy and Germany generate the most revenue for the FIFA WC. I'm sure they get some preferential treatment, but do their administrative bodies get the lion's share of the cash?

Interesting article about cricket's popularity. I was struck by this comment.

At the 2007 cricket World Cup, Ireland received just $56,000 in prize money while Zimbabwe, who they knocked out en route to the Super Eights, received $11 million. Cricket's funding is distributed according to membership status, not merit or need.

Wow that seems completely unfair.

As for all that money Zimbabwe received...I wonder how much of it actually went into the cricket.

Worry is what bcci will do now since if they really wanted to they could extend ipl further and accelerate the death of internationanal and bilateral cricket.

It seems icc are offering bcci 100m more so they are in board and ICC don't risk bcci doing anything crazy in future.

Worse result for ICC and other board would be bcci backing out of away games and ipl extended by 2 weeks and the sept window used for overseas ipl.
That would pretty much harm all boards.

or it would show the BCCI up for being a bunch of selfish assholes more interested in money than the good of the game

TBH BCCI are entailed to a home season.
suspect SA or Aus boxing days games against india is at risk, considering BCCI could just say when ever india play domestic cricket games in india, the team can't be touring other places.
would mean no cricket from Sept/October to Feb/march bit like CA or ECB do now.

money still going to get cut from Associates considering ICC are planning to give another 100M to BCCI.
