That hope didn't last long!

Good fight back by the bowlers this afternoon though. Spinners in control.

Back-to-back games where I simply don't understand our team selection. And both times, Topley is the focus.

Last week I thought it was obvious before a ball was bowled that Topley should have been selected ahead of Crane. Today I thought it was obvious before a ball was bowled that Adams should have been selected ahead of Topley. At Taunton, two spinners and two seamers should always be sufficient (especially when one of those seamers is Abbott). Berg and Topley, unsurprisingly, have bowled just four overs between them. Berg (despite not bowling any of those four overs) gets selected in my book because of his batting.

So ditch the fifth bowler, and get Jimmy in to strengthen the batting.

But hey too late now.

As for the match itself, it's also back-to-back games where potentially the second wicket first innings partnership has done us. We've bowled very well outside of the partnership. And again had a string of LBWs turned turn. Unfortunately for most of that partnership, Crane was serving up full toss after full toss. No point bowling a spinner on a turning wicket if he's not even going to land the thing.

Thanks for everything Pothas. You'll be missed. My nickname for you was apt and I will never forget it. For the last time, arise Sir Nic.

Still a decent chance in this game if we can knock Somerset over tomorrow for around 200. Anything over 250 and its probably curtains.

Crane's bowling seems crap but Dawson held on at the end.

Agree with Budget, anything in the low 200s still gives us a game.

We have a real problem batting in the eighties, wickets seem to tumble.
