And that is very much the opposite of keeping wickets intact. Curran was always going to get Vince nicking off at some point. He just couldn't contain himself, as is his way.

Shame to lose Vince, of course. But at the end of the day that was a brilliant session for us. Over 160 runs scored, for the loss of just one wicket.

You would expect the run-rate to drop from here, with Vince gone. But if we can still manage to end the day on, say, 340-5 I would be very happy. Then get 60 from 14 overs in the morning, and add another 100 on top of that to get a real score on the board. We didn't manage to go that extra mile against Lancs in the first innings, and it cost us. Please not again.

Run rate has picked up in the last 10 overs.

Looks like a high scoring draw at the minute.

If ever there's a time though for being glad to see Fidel AND Crane in the team, it's on a flat wicket after we've racked up a huge score. Sod their expensiveness.

Curran's are bowling very well with this new ball. If this was Abbott and Berg, we'd be cursing our luck.

Just hope Fidel doesn't break down again.

Crane's confidence will be through the roof at the minute.

Just a quick rant here, how can Surrey (and I'm sure they're not alone in this) justify charging £20 for a 16 year old (still legally required to be in full time education for another 2 years) to watch a single day of county championship cricket? Surely at a minimum all counties should have some sort of student tickets or at least a higher age than that for a junior tickets?

Moneybags Surrey £££££

(That is awful though. Way to go to attract younger people to first class cricket...)

Obviously I hope these two see us through to the close, but in the event that we do lose one of them and we insist on keeping Ervine tucked up for the night, can we at least bring Holland/Berg/Abbott out rather than Crane? Could cost us a 5th point in the morning.

Oh, for sure. And it has put him well clear at the top of our batting stats.

Average of 52. If you ignore Alsop's one single innings, then Abbott (!!!) is next averaging 37, closely followed by Berg, Vince (both 36), Ervine (34) and Bailey (33). A little drop after that, to Carberry and McManus (both 25). But all well behind Jimmy.

In the runs column meanwhile, Jimmy is on 522. Vince isn't a million miles behind on 474, but then there's a drop down to Ervine (on 410) and then another drop down to Berg (on 362). Albeit both of course are yet to bat in this game. Bailey is currently seven runs away from being the only other batter, aside from Abbott, to have even passed 300.

To only have one guy averaging over 40, let alone over 50, it's not great. Thankfully we have Abbott and Berg down the order giving us more than just brilliant bowling.

Almost at the fifth batting point, would be nice to restrict Surrey to only one bowling point!

I see our game last year at the Rosebowl against Surrey has been brought up when they made six hundred and alot, and we ended up losing by an innings.

Be nice to get a bit of revenge!
