i'm not saying Ballance doesn't have technical issues, or that i am convinced he will be as successful again at test level as he was when he first came into the side

i just dont believe his current situation is anywhere near as pronounced as it was in the lead up to him losing his test spot a couple of years ago

Need a big stand or two.

Losing wickets too frequently.

hard to criticise him but it was a pretty lazy shot to a wide ball

Aargh ! Root gone to the tune of a massive jinx from Atherton on commentary :(

England now in a lot of trouble...

DRS decisions like that always interest me as to whether the onfield umpire had even given it not out due to the faint edge or not

would have stayed not out even without the edge on height

Root has only ever made more than one hundred in a series once, v Australia in 2015.

Funny - I could have sworn there was no hint of an edge on that (though I expected height to be an issue ) ....then again I didn't think there was an edge on Cook's either...

Not so easy to discern thin edges on sight alone - especially on TV !

Some sloppy SA fielding last few overs...and very little strike for Stokes . Actually none for about five overs ...

No drop today, Quack quack....

Cant help but feel standing there for 5-6 overs without a ball has done the job there.
