surprised it isn't mention by other but really the big reason England are not doing well since 2014 is the bowling, only Anderson and broad average under 35, the rest are in the wrong side of 40.

Woakes has taken 47 wickets @ 28 in the last 3 years

28 i believe is under 35 ...

the only regular bowler that is above 40 during that period is Rashid

so facts aren't really strong in that post of yours Bhav ...

I was only wrong about woakes,
Finn averages 32 which is close to 35 anyway and most of the series he been quite poor anyway so my point stands that the bowlers are struggling,
Stoke close to 35
Ali 38
Wood 39

So stats still show england reliant on Anderson and broad.

got the numbers wrong, it isn't really a big deal considering the points still stands england bowlers isn't that great in the last few years.

Ali average way above 40 but because of his success in 2014 his average end up lower.
Actually his ten wickets at lords probably pushed ali average down as well.

Either way with the current set of bowlers hard to see england winning much in Test cricket apart from the crap test nations.

Not sure "on his last legs" quite describes the bowler who has seven so far in this match. Obviously nearer end than beginning but he may have a year or so in him yet.

They do depend on those two to an unhealthy degree , true. Might look a bit better when Woakes is fit.

I think the batting is the greater problem at the moment.

Cricinfo followers suggesting SA will declare tonight. Really don't get that. SA will want to grind England way beyond the point at which the game is at stake. They'll bat on into tomorrow, given the chance.

Yeah batting is a problem although that could be fixed if they play root at 3 and drop Dawson and pick Ali at 8.
Not sure bowling could be fixed that easily, they really need bowlers pushing through now.
Selection and management need to be better though.

2 weeks til the next test so not as big an issue as it would be for back to back tests

but i agree, keep going til lunch tomorrow and still have 5 sessions to bowl england out
