Doesn't seem as if we gave him much of a chance - what are the chances he'll go straight into the Derby first team and take a stack of wickets against us next week? He'll probably get runs as well!

This Podmore leaving is a strange one. If they have let him go after one match then he must be well below the standard of the youngish seamers already at Durham. The only other thing I can think of if they wanted to keep him was that the chances of getting a decent contract was better at Derbyshire so he decided to go.

Assuming all our seamers are fit then they 're deservedly should be given chances in the final 4 CC games. Weighell and McCarthy in particular. The terms of Podmore's loan was 2nd team only and their programme is now finished.
Presumably he'll get the opportunity to impressive both Derbyshire and Durham in the coming days.

Crickey have the 2nds finished for the season already. That feels earlier than usual also a bit of a waste of time for Podmore. I would imagine one or two squad players have already been told if they are being retained or released especially the development players (Hickey and Harding)

A recent retweet by the club from Hickey that the 2018 season can't come quickly enough seems to imply that he'll still be with us. I don't think he's been given enough 1st team opportunities -certainly never let he team down when he has.

Sadly I think it was just about to start for him when he got injured, a couple of decent performances in the T20 would have possibly led to him being retained for the championship run in.
Iam not sure what is happening with Trevaskis but he will add more competition. I know University is an option for him but if he gets selected for the U19 world cup in the winter he will probably have to defer that for 12 months and may get some kind of contract with Durham.

If he does play and puts in a good performance it would just be typical of the way things have gone this year!

Why can't the likes of Trevaskis go to Durham University which plays a good standard of cricket, and also have a Durham development contract? There seems to be little liaison between CCC and UCCE.

According to The Sunday Times , Woody has put himself forward for South Africa's T20 league - it starts in November and his decision " surprised England somewhat , as he would be a near-certainty for the Ashes tour if he is fit."

Presumably he's just hedging his bets in case there's a situation where he's fit for T20 games but not a test tour. Or is it the first hint that he is starting to think he may never be fit enough for a test match career. Whatever happens will have an impact on Durham because if he fades away from test cricket he is unlikely to retain his central contract.

Thanks. So it must just be a case of him keeping options open in the unlikely event of not being in the Ashes squad.

Exactly, we're talking in £100ks and no one is centrally contacted after September at present.

England must be desperate for Wood to be fit for at least part of the Ashes. I reckon they would be delighted if they can have him fit for that first test at Brisbane and fit for Perth even if they rest him at Adelaide. After the Ashes it would not surprise me if he became a one day specialist "gun for hire" around the world.
