England have dragged themselves back into this. If they can match WI first innings, got to be in with a good chance.

This is actually better than I thought it might be. 3 down to go past 170 is a lot better than England often manage, and I thought would probably be close to par.

As ever, the morning will be crucial. If England can make it to lunch with only one or two more down, they should be able to set the West Indies a chase of 200+, which is at least possible to defend. But get rolled in the morning session, and the game will go to WI.

West Indies are definitely favourites for me, but England are not out yet.

One thing's for certain: this is a far more compelling test match than Edgbaston. I am glad that West Indies have come back strongly after that, for the sake of the series and the game more broadly (I said as much after last game).

Ban are in a great position, but I think it's too early to say there yet. If they get Smith out cheaply tomorrow, then I would agree with you, but with the batting Australia have to come, they could still easily post a first innings lead.

Hot sunny day tomorrow with more cloud around on Tuesday. That suits England.

Shame for WI that new ball isn't due just a bit earlier.

if I was pricing the game it would be england 2.20, WI 2.70, Draw 5.00

draw is a bit overpriced but it had to happen since I reckon we still get results 7 times out of 10 from here, even though they still a decent shot at a draw but these days teams don't play for draws so you can see longer odds for them.
think england are still slight fav because WI bowling attack isn't the strongest, the deck still looks flat and england still got plenty of batting left.

WI would start fav for me when they take one more wicket, ideally root.
in most cases at the moment WI chasing 200+ total.
it has to be seen if WI can chase a total or england can defend a total.

another think that make england slight favorites for me is that england got a better team on paper, so if england play to potential in a even set game against wi they should still beat them or be in a good position.
basically england are more likely to have a fantastic day and likewise wi are more likely to have an awful or average day.
got to say the bookies are having a shocking time pricing the game though.
in the morning england should have never been fav, if Bangladesh were not long odds, no one would touch England and WI were a very tempting price and because of the tempting price, england had to be fav all day even though they shouldn't be because if WI start shortening then people backing WI at the long odds would cash out and take a nice tidy profit without much trouble or issue.
england odds are still crazy.
no way are england 1.57, WI 4.50 and Draw 5
depending on how Bangladesh do tomorrow morning, might do a partial cashout tomorrow morning.
really can't risk the money now, since I do believe WI are one wicket away from destroying England price in the market.
but I have to see how speith gets on though, got a double with him and WI as insurance in the morning just incase Cook, Stoneman and co failed while trailing 160 odd.
from my calculation I am not losing any money, assuming speith wins of course, or if it isn't a draw, but I would most likely would have cashout if they any hope of a draw, plus the draw only going to start coming down, on end of day 4 or morning day 5.

Surprise how idiotic the prices were for both the test matches.
if England do win, I am pretty much banned from the betting site I reckon and my uni dream would have been achieved lol.

looks like the market got the same view to you then.
england were 1.66 after close of play, I checked when I was following the game on the long coach journey from bolton to wembley.
either morons are backing england or the bookies can't afford people backing england at long odds and them actually winning the game.
it makes more financial sense for them to take the risk on WI than england.
still looks like a belter of a pitch, england still got Stokes, root, malan, Ali, bairstow, Woakes and broad.
so essentially they should be able to score another 200 at least.
they really should score around 350 and declare close to end of play.
or be all out around 300.

Maybe WI chasing 220-250 = even game.

More than that and it's England's to lose, less then WI are in charge.

Unless the surface breaks up.

at the moment my nomination for the test of the year and certainly for the summer, if I wasn't busy tomorrow, was going to buy a train ticket to leeds and watch the game lol.
believe tickets are very cheap tomorrow and would be 3 years in a row been to a headingley test match, cheaply to add as well.

Swear down some journalist were saying it right to punish rabada, because it was in the rules but now it is wrong to punish stokes.
pretty certain the rabada incident was similar to stokes one.
if anything I remember Rabada saying he was swearing more at him self than the batsman.
so even bumble claim about rabada is wrong.

Someone just emitting a swear word doesn't seem like much of an offence to me (which is what Stokes is reported to have done). I thought Raba directed it at the batter, it was reported that way. I've seen Stokes direct plenty of aggro at the batters before though, so it's hard to be too sympathetic.

true at the moment it only gets reported if the tv people could hear it.
so it works both ways really since they must be millions of examples of Kohli, Stokes etc swearing although in the rules it is clear all swear works or offensive words are banned.
so even swearing at your self is risking one demerit point, which should be remember is a lenient charge.
you need 4 of those to get banned.
so basically you can swear 4 times before getting banned.
quite a few journalist/ tv people are missing the point that demerit points add up so stokes isn't getting banned or risked for ban over this tiny swearword it is because of all the stuff he done in the past 24 months.
IE the mohali charge and I think the dhaka one.
Same with rabada, although rabada was slightly different case in that rabada got 3 points for barging a player which could be accidental, similar to when jadeja got done for throwing a ball at batsman.

Yes but it's the inconsistency in applying the rules that's the issue. Stokes curses himself yet Clark, for everyone to hear and reported worldwide, tells Anderson to"be prepared for a f***ing broken arm" and escapes censure iirc.

yep that is the biggest bugbear for me.
although for clarke these rules were not present at the time.
although they do tend to miss kohli swearing or the send off, or root throw, I reckon they miss more infringements than the ones they actually punish players for.
