Just been looking at the Durham twitter feed and quite surprised how many players took part in the Great North Run. I know they have a week off and the are fit young men but it is still during the cricket season. Iam not sure that at this stage of the season the so called fitness gurus would be recommending a 13 mile run especially Rushworth or any other of the pace bowlers.
I know quiet a few players used to do it in the past in October. But I don't know it does not make much sense to me during the season. Probably not that important but we keep hearing how by this stage of the season the players are running on empty.

Yes, although going by his last couple of T20 innings Jennings finds it hard to resist a good run out!
Rushy though surely could have done with putting his feet up.

of course, the season has been reduced, presumably to prevent player burn out and hence improve the quality of the cricket, so not only do our players run the biggest half marathon in the world, but one of them takes the opportunity to make £75k playing in Pakistan

Not too dissimilar to the England players complaining that there was too much cricket ...until the IPL started and they all went quiet!

the thing is, it's hard to criticise players trying to fit as many matches (and as much money) as they can, into, what is for most, a short and uncertain career

Yeah, never know what is around the corner and I think Colly was genuinely pleased to be asked to play in that that World X1 although he did admit the money was good!

I think, as you say, the key factor is they had a full week to recover. Beats going on a week's stag do which the likes of Pudsey, IDB and Colonel did a few years ago when they had a week off.It's as much mentally recharging at this stage of the season and this has given them a focus away from cricket. Plus they've been raising money for good causes which has to be good PR for the club.

I think, as you say, the key factor is they had a full week to recover. Yes I think its fair to say quite a few of the Durham lads during that time played it full on off the pitch as well as on it.

Does that mean they didn't check the safety of the stands ?!

Surely security check means searching for hidden explosive devices and the clearest sign to detect them must be interference to fittings i.e.loose or insecure seating or flooring. So that should have been rigorously checked.
