The Lyon comment is gold.
If Lyon took 4 wickets for 80 that is basically England 250 all out even with the extra runs.
Bt sport spent 18 months planning for this series and they come out with this is shocking stuff.
It is fine to have the banter but if most of them are doing it then it sounds repitive and channel 9 comms style, would rather prefer the sky style of less talk and more thought to what the comms are saying.

MPV was pretty good as usual.

The advertising of other programmes on the channel by the commentators can go. But at least it wasn't at C9 level.

There wasn't anyone at a Morrison/Shastri standard of vacuousness. Boycott is abysmal, but he's very popular, so that's a question of taste.

Australian commentators were not that bad, only really Damien Fleming average and that mostly because of his voice.
Pointing needs good people to work with.
English comms are awful though, crazy they couldn’t get anyone better considering they probably got 3 of the most hated TMs comms for the job would be all 4 if they hired Tufnell.

Although vaughan is ok but that not really a good thing if he is your number 1 commentator.
Also they talk too much this isn’t tms.

Sky would have Warne, Gower, Lloyd, Hussain, Botham. I'd far rather have the pundits on last night (save Borecott). The Aussies weren't all that enlightening, but at least they kept the bantz at a low level.

11.30 pm(BST) start on 2nd day to compensate for lost overs. Fresh bowlers, new ball so Malan and Ali are in effect openers. 1st hour will be crucial.

Yeah, it was among the dumbest post game points I have heard. You would rather lose wickets and score less overall runs, for a higher run rate on day 1 of a 5 game series? As Kevin was making his point, you seen all 5 people on the panel and are thinking they are all going to screw their faces up in disgust, but Swanny starts nodding like a lapdog and then launches into a part agreeing with him. Crazy couple of minutes, that.

But at least it wasn't at C9 level.

People will disagree, but GS is the worst commentator I have ever heard. Id rather listen to Healy and Slats talk utter trash.... and dare I say, Mark Nicholas. That felt wrong to say that, but its honest.

I used to like Geoffrey, but the older he gets, the worse he gets. Ashes bring out the worst in him generally too. He's turned into a really poor commentator, I cant stand him now. Is anyone left who likes him?

I think Mike was only reacting to Dr Cricket's comment about punching Graeme Swann, although I'd punch him for not getting his just deserts after getting caught drink driving.

As to the general coverage I'll have to give it a go at some point. Sounds like they haven't done a great job so far, but maybe like the footy coverage it will improve over time.

Was it GS who spent 3 hours this morning calling Mitchel Starc, Mitchel Johnson too?

Even when it was pointed out Johnson had retired, he continued

TBH I wouldn’t be talking too soon if England win the ashes Swann and vaughan would probably be screaming everything like Morrison or shastri would.
Yeah boycott is always been marmite, don’t mind listening to him though.
Suspect the English players will be happy though they batting technique won’t be covered in such huge detail now because sky not covering it.
That is probably the hardest part of being an English player now you can’t even fail a few times as a new player without sky dissecting your technique.

TBH the punching comment was a really a joke, but I did feel like punching or throwing something at the telly when he was on.

Boycott's commentary keeps on getting more infantile (before you get to the overbearing, bullying demeanour). He was saying stuff like 'England won't want to lose a wicket' or 'the bowlers have got to keep to good lines'- really everything at that level of insight. If the woman commentator was coming out with this stuff, there would be (a twitter powered) outrage.

MPV feels to me easily the most insightful pundit around. He doesn't always bother, but listening to him work over a batter from the box, is a joy. Sadly he doesn't often think we want that detail of insight. OK, he's a bit flash, but that actually comes across less outside the TMS box.

The woman commentator was coming up with that stuff. What happened to Lotte, she was decent and at least had a cricket career behind her and knowledge. Alison Mitchell feels like a token gesture, and that for me sets women back in this industry. Its good to see women in the box, but you want women who are knowledgeable. I dont get that with Mitchell much. Shes positive, but not much substance. Partnering her with Boycott was not a great move either, as you say, he comes with no much nowadays.

Vaughan seems to be prone to the odd controversial opinion that is a bit forced, like he tries a bit too hard. When hes natural and lets it flow, hes good. Id like him and Punter to be together, two decent captains and voices that should reign in each other.

BT Coverage been dreadful, been a mix of Channel 9 level bantz and trying to be professional like sky just doesn't work.
Can't believe they couldn't get anyone better than Swann on.
English commentators are poor for BT Sports only really Vaughan is any good and he generally one of the weak links for TMS.
Boycott is like marmite people either like him or really hate him.

Don't you mean they either hate him or really hate him? ;-)
