Funny how things get framed. Smith said he would have batted first, so if Australia won the toss, the situation would be identical, and we'd be talking about how England had done reasonably well to restrict Australia under the circumstances. Instead everyone's talking about the innings of the context to bowl first.

I have to agree. The D/N stuff is not well timed for me here in the US, so I haven't seen the play. But I saw the score this morning and thought it was OK, certainly not dominated by either side. The run rate was slow, but maybe sides have figured out at last that it is better to grind out the night session than lose a bunch of wickets in bowler friendly conditions.

Sounds like test cricket to me.

Bam! There's the start England needed, and they'll have a crack at the potentially vulnerable Paine and lower order with the new ball. Got to make good use of it though, we know Starc and Cummins can bat, and Lyon and Hazlewood are certainly not rabbits.

Deserved for Broad I think. He was the best bowler on display for much of yesterday, but as so often seems to happen these days he bowled well without deserved reward. I don't know if it's because batsmen are content to see him off knowing his non-Anderson team mates can't back him up, or if he's just been a bit unlucky.

Marsh still plugging away as well. So far for all the complaints about Australian selections, they seems to be doing OK.

Lots of starts for nearly all of the Australian batsman. Still think this is nicely poised with Australia ahead at present. 3 Wickets now for England to get. Australia needs to bat another hour at least.

100 for Marsh, well done. Fully justified his selection and its so nice to see the middle order make some runs.

Cummins contributing to make sure Australia reach 400. Could be a tough evening under lights for the English bats if Australia can get the ball to move. Looking at the Australian score card though, it would suggest batting is not to bad.

England just can't bowl the tail out. The best way is fast short pitch bowling. Australia has shown that.

A 100 when team was struggling and big players Warner and Smith had not contributed much. A senior needed to put up his hands and play a steering knock. Shaun Marsh rose to the occasion playing the seniors innings when that was the need of the hour. Well played.

True and this is the last over for Australia with Marsh putting some misery onto England. I was hoping for a debate on the relative merits of Hazelwood vs Lyon batting though:)
