SA also got the disadvantage of having to get the runs, it was kind of easier for Kohli and Vijay to do it since they were aiming for 100-150 lead and it just grew and grew over time.
if Vijay and kohli were batting with india in 50-70 run deficit not sure they could have played the innings they did, looks a deck when you go for runs that a wicket is in the corner.

the other factor is going to be SA tail, they might need them to finish this off.

TBH if SA chase 240 odd it was probably because of poor bowling and exceptional batting.

Obviously

But if India were somehow to lose with SA 8 or 9 down would be serious egg on there face had they declared

In a low scoring match you get every run you can, 9 times out of 10 you won't need the runs but you never know when that 1 out of 10 game is. Cricket is not a predictable sport.

175 is enough on such a wicket. Players safety is important as well imo.

Now Elgar has been hit . Been too many instances. Probably the 6th discussion between umpires regarding wicket.

my view on this is that 3 innings have been completed and now the match has to be over, either SA concede the game if they don't want to face the bowling or the game is won by SA winning the game with getting the runs or india get the other 9 wickets.
the only time they could have abandoned the game was when india were batting and umpires were looking at the deck during the tea break and before that.
you can't allow india to bat and post a total and soon as SA are batting and struggling the umpires call it off.
