With nine down, looks like SA will have to bat tonight. 400 lead. That's plenty.

bad light has affected all the sunfoil series matches in the last couple of days as well, so it's presumably a problem in SA at this time of year, which makes the idea of adding on time at the end of play a typically baffling decision from whichever cricketing authorities made the decision.

unless they would have problems with dew if they started earlier, perhaps?

After that second day, South Africa needed a miracle, and they didn't get it. 400 is never out of the question (450 would be), but looks bloody unlikely on this wicket.

Australia have done this very professionally from day one. Overcame early setbacks to post an over-par 350 in the first innings and then never allowed SA to build any sort of a partnership when they batted . Have to say that apart from AB the SA batsmen didn't play very well (were they underdone? Or just couldn't handle the excellent Lyon and his pack of fast bowling pals ?)...once they were out for 162 it became just a question of when not if for the result. Give them marks for battling it out with the ball yesterday but they are going to need a seriously better effort from the batsmen in the later matches or this series is going only one way. Australia will be delighted to have done so well without a monster innings from Smith - though his first innings effort was still very important in setting up the later batsmen. M Marsh continues to confound all of us who thought he was neither a real allrounder or a true batsman...

Markham gets his half century!

However de bruyne out in the 30s. If he is the next best batsman then the cupboard is extremely bare.

Bavuma could take back his place when he recovers from his finger injury.
