Who will replace Steve Smith as Oz skipper long term?

OK, so assuming that CA throw the book at Steve Smith & Dave Warner, who will be the next bearer of the armband?
"Hey, doll. Could you scare up another round for our table over here? And tell the cook this is low grade dog food. I've had better food at the ballgame, you know? This steak still has marks from where the jockey was hitting it." Al Czervik, aka Rodney Dangerfield in "Caddyshack" (1980)

None exactly inspire confidence or any great sense of permanence.

The phrase 'long term' must rule out Bailey, Clarke and Someone ElseTwatto, and I can't see Paine being in the role starting the summer.

So, like at least three others here, I reckon it has to be MMarsh.

Whilst I had been telling you lot for some time that we hadn't seen the last of M3 in the Baggy Green, I never thought that he would be captain. Strange times (not that he is yet though).
Maybe

I think I won something, sometime

I went for Khawaja. I think it is quite difficult for an allrounder to also take on the captaincy. It always feels like too much to cope with and even if their captaincy is good there often seems to be a decline in form. This is true of all players, of course, but with allrounders it always feels as though any loss of form is doubled somehow.

Didn't hinder the likes of Imran Khan, of course, but I suspect he may have been in the minority

Khawaja strikes me as being a steady, calm sort of chap. I have no idea what his captaincy was like for Queensland

Don't know about long term ; but it strikes me that Tim Paine was asked to take up the poisoned chalice in this difficult time in preference to the Marsh , Khawaja alternatives , on the grounds of perceived character and maturity.

As I type I'm watching him bat ...and battle ...to keep his team out of complete meltdown at The Wanderers. He is doing a pretty good job at the moment.

I think the qualities he has displayed here and during the Ashes Series after his surprise recall point to his suitability for the role in what is bound to be a tricky period. I think he will keep the job at least for the summer. As I think he should.
