Yorkshire might have taken the scenic route to the knockout rounds, but i'm pleased they did. Winning close matches tells you more about a team than a 360:180 slog fest. In the last three games, one player took ownership of getting Yorkshire over the line whether it was Matt Fisher, David Willey or Jonny Tattersall.
What was more impressive is Jonny Tattersall coming in to bat, a huge unknown but took so much pressure off Gary Ballance. His front foot footwork against spin and rapid running between the wickets without the need to slog prevented the required run rate going above 7rpo and went below 6rpo in Powerplay 3, on a pitch which was good for spin for the 2nd innings.
Even without the England players I feel Yorkshire have a chance against Essex. The top six of Lyth, TKC, Brook, Ballance, Leaning and Tattersall looks okay. Some lower order hitting from Bresnan and Fisher. Patterson pace off the ball at Chelmsford will be very handy. It's whether Yorkshire go with two spinners in Rafiq and Carver or one plus Coad.
Since the 1st Australia ODI is at the Kia Oval, there is an argument for Rashid to play for Yorkshire with him being a spinner. Reading David Willey's latest interview, he is wanting to be involved in the knockout rounds and would be a huge boost both bat and ball.
