I guess top players always believe they have one more in them, its in their nature. I wouldnt generally fault a determined aged pro for wanting to play on, as long as they are contributing to the club still. If its clear they are just doing it for the money, and arent actually trying, its different..... but is Colly like that? Id be surprised if so, he always struck me as a decent guy, and one who seems to care about Durham a lot.

I think he will make the right call but , as you say , the determination of the top players to just have one more year might cloud his judgement.

I doesnt bother me a great deal. Someone like Yards for us was finished long before he left, but he'd been an excellent servant. A few bad years is par for the course at the end...

I'd go along with that especially if Lewis isn't going to bring anyone else in.

Lead of over 300 at lunch. It's either great batting or the pitch has flattened out.
Could be an interesting finish to this game, ordinarily I'd say 300 should be enough but if our misfiring lineup has made pretty serene progress it suggests batting can't be too difficult. I guess the new ball will be crucial when Sussex bat and also Patel's spin.

Yeh,Tresco has signed for Somerset for another year after a moderate season. No problem if their salary is commensurate to their current contribution and not what it was when they were at their peak.

that he's continued to play for us for years after his international retirement says it all. So many leave the game after an illustrious international career, without ever trying to help the county that helped them to become that international player.

I think Colly's desire to help Durham is entirely laudible and typical of the man. He has so much knowledge and experience to pass on to the guys coming through. This is probably the first season where he's had some difficulties, but only really in the CC in a season where every batsman has struggled... it's been a horribly disappointing year for us as a team.

I'd like to see him take the head coach job, but if the club won't get rid of Lewis, then I have no problem with Colly staying on another year as player and club captain.... to use the modern cricketing parlance, he has a lot of credit in the bank

4 wickets in 11 balls. All out for 340..... Ollie Robinson has been a revelation this year with the ball. Still no mention of possible international recognition. He loves playing against Durham mind, think it was against you guys he hit that 100 and bowled you out, on debut a couple of years back.

Dont know anything about his personal situation, but Id guess being a local lad from Shotley Bridge way, it must be nice to finish your career in the area you come from, family and friends around and what not. I know a while back there was talk of quick promotion to the England coaching staff, but it never materialized. Surprised he hasnt been given the Durham coaching job by now. I guess he might have wanted to concentrate on playing.Certainly at some point youd expect him to take the job.
