we'll have them 4 down and wishing we had another 100 runs to play with

Still.... at no stage did I have any hopes for this match when I first looked at the fixture list, so nothing is actually lost.... except for the match, of course

Cricinfo report mentions that a defeat would make it a fifth successive Championship defeat. Gloucs at home next week, they're not very good but I think we're worse so it'll probably be 6 from 6 unless it rains a lot or Bangers scores about 400 runs.

Incredibly, it will be the 1st time we've lost our 1st 3 CC matches of the season.

Wow. I didn't know that, just goes to show how bad things are . Some disastrous seasons in the first decade or so for Durham and yet this will be the worst start we've ever had.

although, in fairness to the stat, this is probably the first time that our first 3 matches haven't been badly rain affected.

Gloucs just scored 400 and plenty, so there's lots for us to be worried about

I'm more worried about Glamorgan who should be as bad as we are, yet after being asked to follow on are now 359-1

can you imagine us scoring that? We'd probably struggle to score 359 runs across 2 innings

Durhamfootman wrote:Surely I'm not the only one who assumed that our international opener (former, of course) would open for us. He came in today in the fourth over, and in the first innings it was the second over (against Sussex he came in the ninth and the first over respectively), so he might as well be opening where hopefully he can blunt the opposition attack instead of inspiring them with 3 cheap wickets every innings.

although perhaps his batting at 3 could be construed as a statement of intent. If he was thinking about working towards a possible Australia recall later in the year, he'd surely want to press his case by opening for us. There are other Aussies around county cricket atm batting at 3

That is very ominous, they are hopeless but we must be even worse!

Well we'll find out on Sunday when we face their current opponents. Inevitably we'll bat first. Runs in the sun on a Sunday :party

What could possibly go wrong?!
Worcs are 4 down and as DFM suggested, another 100 runs would have given us a real chance.

Yeh, if Salisbury hadn't spilt that catch we'd have had that. But if totals hover around 200 as they have all season we're going nowhere.

He dropped Whitely when he'd scored about 5 and he went on to get 72 in a century partnership.

ah... Whiteley 72, plus all the runs he helped others to get by sticking around

yep..... that might very well have done it

still.... catches get dropped all the time
