No doubt there will be a collapse at some stage but 100 runs for one wicket that wasn't taken by Anderson or Onions lends further wait to the theory that a lot of our problems are down to the uncontested toss rule and home pitches.

Bancroft and Harte out in quick succession to the deadly duo.
Thankfully we have a rock solid middle order. :scared

If Clark opens against Onions and Jimmy I'll be surprised if he gets past 0!

Well he didn't open... :horse

199/5 is better than I expected but Burnham getting out to Livingstone just before the close is annoying.
Just have to hope we can get close to their score - although the chances aren't great especially with the dreaded new ball on the horizon.

Bancroft was Jimmy Anderson's 950th FC wicket.

Think he got about 10 last week before the declaration after a duck in the first innings but can't remember the last meaningful score.

Just looked it up - he had a 66 in one of the RL 50 games and that was 66 out of the 89 runs he made in 6 innings!

Indeed!
Short's over here with Australia A - not made any runs so nust be saving them for us! At leasr he didn't make any in two games I noticed. Might have made some in the others if there have been any.

My mistake. Bangers was 949. Clark was the 950th.

Cricinfo reporter is predicting 138 runs in arrears but with 5 wickets in hand has set the stage for a close contest.
We will see about that but even when if it goes horribly wrong I think there are reasons for optimism. Not collapsing to Jimmy and Onions was unexpected - they'll run through better lineups than ours.
Bancroft is a class act, Lees has shown very encouraging signs of getting back to his old form and Eckersley has been an excellent addition. Harte has done well and Burnham/Trevaskis have promise.
If we could add one more experienced batsman - or rejuvenate Cameron Steel - that batting lineup would look pretty decent. Bowling attack looks capable of winning games if we can post decent totals, although the injury problems seem to be returning.
The cricinfo reporter also doesn't think Bangers will be in the Ashes squad. For his sake I hope he is but for ours I hope he isn't!
