Another woeful batting effort after Short and Red Adair- rode his luck but did ok - set yet another good platform. And this was against pretty much a second string attack.

Fortunately we've got a far better team representing the 2nd team at the moment.

we ran them closer than I thought we would

WL got his wish and Stainless bowled his full complement. Along with Gandalf the Grey he managed to put the brakes on.

consign this comp into the 'thank goodness it's nearly over' file for another year. A shame really because in the early stages of the campaign we looked as though we had a lot of things going for us this year. 2 quality overseas signings (until one was taken away from us at the last minute); this year's Durham find of the season in Stainless Steel; one of the most miserly death over bowling partnerships in the country in Potts and Gandalf; generally tidy and sometimes threatening spin from Trevaskis. We had a plan for once, one which worked for us at the start, yet somehow everything just fizzled out and once 8 players in every game got the batting yips our goose was cooked.

I still believe that Bancroft would have made the world of difference to that team. We seemed to lack a cool head much of the time.

Raine in particular was surprisingly disappointing.

In hindsight, I think making all our batters from 3 downwards use foam rubber bats and issuing them with lead lined boots with the laces tied together, may have been a mistake

anyway, I'm glad I didn't go tonight.... and that has to be bad for us, especially if we want to make plenty of money from the T20

Watched some of the 'highlights' and I suppose a partial excuse is we had the worst of the conditions - Patel said as much.
Still, a very poor campaign overall with a couple of real highs and a series of woeful batting efforts.
Agree DFM that Bancroft would likely have made a big difference.

Which Handscomb certainly didn't.
I'm a bit concerned that Lees was neither selected for the 1st nor 2nds nor any mention of an injury. Seems rumour of a rift has some sustenance.

perhaps it's just that any T20 hopes had been extinguished and he was being rested for the final 3 CC matches. He's become a vital cog in that machine

Woody,commentating for Sky, did say he was surprised Lees wasn't playing. Hopefully it is just rest but he was left out at a time when we had high hopes of a QF slot.
One annoying thing about the near absence of any local newspaper coverage is that there's no pressure on the coaching staff to explain their decisions.

Perhaps-we were told when Carse was rested. Ideal opportunity yesterday to get some red ball practise -there's 3 weeks between CC games. I hope you're right but watching these last 3 insipid T20 games tending to the view that North and Franklin are a pair of charlatans.
