Ishant finally gets his length right after bowling far too short and too wide for 5 balls of the over. Wasting the new ball, really. If that had been Broad, I'd be getting disgruntled

Such a flat pitch is a surprise and winning the toss is big on a pitch like this - but Eng have been brilliant. The batsmen identified the flat pitch, and the absence of Jadeja to really capitalise as soon as Ashwin, Bumrah and Ishant aren't bowling. Perfect start from England

The last time Eng played a test in Chennai in 2016 they won the toss and scored 477. India scored 759/7 before declaring and won by an innings and 75 runs - so a lot can happen even with a great start for England.

Of course, Jadeja took 10 wickets, 4 catches and scored 50 off 50 balls in that game - and he's injured this time so it's looking good for England

Pitch if anything has got more flat and slow over the day. Its hard at the moment to see how 40 wickets can drop on it. Maybe it will quickly fall apart later in the test, or scoreboard pressure might force some batsman out, but atm its hard to see how a team will get batsman out

New ball has hardly moved at all. Not really any extra bounce or zip from it either.
