Durham finish 3rd and go into div 2, having only lost 2 matches..... both to Essex

looks like Surrey, Glammy, Gloucs and Northants will lie in wait for us, assuming Hants knock off the 50 odd runs required to win their match

Talk also of the ECB perhaps cancelling the One Day cup over coronavirus fears with probs at Derby and Kent, but there is no suggestion at all that this might affect the Very Silly that they've blown 70 million quid setting up..... after all, even if it's far too risky to play 50 over cricket, it's likely that very expensive 16.4 over cricket will almost certainly be fine

Seems to be some criticism of the 60 yard boundaries set for this match.

Only Durham would do something so ludicrous in order to thump max batting points and then get skittled for 165 and end up getting fcukall it's hard to think that we didn't get exactly what we deserved


I have to say, btw, that our bright start to the CC campaign and our bright start to the T20 campaign have been derailed by some very ordinary captaincy

We've witnessed some very muddled thinking both before and during matches this season and I feel bound to question whether we have the right people in place.

From a membership perspective I've also got to question the decisions behind playing half of our home 50 over matches away. If I understand it correctly, and I may not although Marty seemed pretty confident, our next two CC matches in early Sept are away fixtures meaning that as we hit the peak weeks of summer we only have two home 50 over games to look forward to before the autumn sets in in mid Sept.

MN might have affiliations to South North, but I don't and playing a home fixture 96 miles away in Yorkshire is frankly preposterous. It's bad enough that the ECB want to banish all county cricket from the summer without our own management doing away with the few scraps that the ECB are prepared to allow, for reasons best known to themselves

Do we even have a 50 over captain, or will we just draft Poynter into the role in the absence of Calamity Coughlin?

George Dobell says that there's a chance the RL50 might even be cancelled with so many squads decimated by covid isolation...and players involved in The 100!
I think we ran out of steam because the squad isn't strong enough to cope with losing players for one reason or another. I suppose it's a,positive that we only lost to Essex- even tbough one was snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
I'm cautiously optimistic we are headed in the right direction although Borthwick's batting and captaincy are areas of concern.
I think when Lees returns I'd move Jones into the middle order and leave out Burnham or Dickson. The latter has done well in T20 and a decent score today to stave off any threat of a collapse so I think I'd stick witb him. Tricky though because Burnham started the season well and still has time on his side.

Jones has outscored Bangers this season, I think

I had a feeling we were going to miss Lees. I wonder when he'll be back.... presumably in time for CC part deux in 24 weeks time or whenever the ECB feels confident that there's no chance of wasting any of the midsummer months with county cricket

Probably will get a chance with all the upheaval this year, might struggle when tbings are - hopefully!- back to normal next season.
