Yes. I'd have thought we'd want a result pitch here and a less helpful one next week. Unless for some reason they couldn't get a surface they wanted for this one.

The skipper in his post match interview has summed up the problem perfectly. He says that overhead conditions dictate the conditions at the Riverside. Pitches are invariably flat,more so on the pavilion side of the square, and it's only when there's cloud cover,or rain about,that we get a result pitch.
Quite frankly,these flat pitches aren't fit for 1st class cricket ,so do something about it, Durham, or take the consequences. That's before I mention the state of the ground, the malfunctioning scoreboard, the non issue of membership cards or handbooks....

According to ESPN Broad is available for selection this week but will most likely return the following week . Good!

It's odd because The Independent is saying Broad almost certainly is going to play against us!
ESPN article says the Daily Mail reported that he wouldn't be!

In the post-match interview Borthwick said the pitch is near the one for the Leicestershire match- ie towards the pavilion where they tend to do offer less assistance to the bowlers...we will find out if he's right!

The Times reporting Broad won't play. Confusion seems to be because he is available but apparently wants to delay his return until the next round.

so surprised to miss out and so busy champing at the bit to bowl in the WIndies, that he can't now be bothered and fancies another week off with his feet up and someone to fetch him another cuppa

Maybe he watched the stream of last weeks game and feared similar bowling conditions!
Although I suppose the reports of his absence could be wrong or Notts can persuade him to play- assuming they want him to!

According to the Daily Mail the ECB want the bowlers to play three Championship matches and the reason Broad is unlikely to play tomorrow is because he wants to play on grounds that will be used for the tests - 2 home games for Notts and the away match at Lords.
