Yes, it has been a more solid start than I feared but we could have done without that.

Can't see any mention of why Lees isn't playing. Assumption must be a failed fitness test but why don't they just clarify it. Unless they have and I missed it.

2 more after lunch

both out to poor shots. KP looked disappointed with his lbw decision, but he can't have too many complaints from what I could see. Capt Beaky just had a slash at a wide one and edged behind

told you we couldn't play spin, btw

and it isn't even doing much

Eckersley at 6 always feels to me like we're a batsman short

Bedders is our best batsman. He's on 1 and if Eckersley doesn't bat long, then he'll be marshalling the tail while on 1

not the best use of our best bat imo

Eckersley is probably one slot to high and Bedders is certainly one slot too low in the order

Must be a case for Borthwick dropping to 5. Trevaskis retired hurt after a 2nd blow on the head - he seemed OK as he went off.

Trevaskis, according to Elizabeth Ammon from The Times, will have to miss the rest of the match so we'll get a concussion substitute. This is where the 'like for like' replacement gets interesting. I wonder if George Drissel can bat?

77 runs and 8 wickets in 7 matches! I wonder if Lees's back has eased yet - he can bowl spin!

Got a half century in the NEPL last Saturday.
Borthwick is becoming an embarrassment,he's really not worth his place at the moment.
Presumably there's some life in the pitch?

If he doesn't make runs soon it will be a big problem- when Lees returns one option must be to move Jones down the order so Eckersley can bat at 7. If that happened who would go? Probably Trevaskis but I think he has some good qualities- if not Borthwick is vulnerable given Dickson, Petersen and Bedingham are not.

not a lot... not really

we threw our wickets away pretty much. Only once did I see the pitch misbehave and that was a ball from P-W to Drissell which spat up and turned.

I'd watched the morning session and early afternoon on the live feed, but I arrived just in time to see Pattinson knock Treva's head off. This was the only period where something was happening for the bowlers and it was largely just because Pattinson was really bending his back. It was quite a ferocious spell. Short ball which probably didn't get up as much as Treva expected because he seemed to duck into it. The noise from his helmet was quite alarming, so I'm not surprised that he had to be subbed out. Pattinson then came back and smeared Mr Ned's furniture all over the ground. I lost track of the number of times that Pattinson overstepped, but it must have been 7 or 8..... but then he was throwing everything into bowling as fast and as furious as he could, so if it was a Durham bowler I wouldn't have minded.

I watched the first 4 overs of our bowling and came away. It seemed unlikely that Notts were going to lose any wickets in that final 15 over spell. Nothing there for the bowlers and the openers looked very organised...... still.... nothing happened for Notts for their opening spell either, it was just that Jones went after a short ball and didn't get anything like enough on the ball, KP, Dicko, Drissell and Gibson all got caught going back to the offie and then missing..... we can't play spin.... Borthwick flashed at a wide one and nicked off, Pottsy hammered a pull down the throat of the deep sq leg fielder on the short boundary who didn't have to move an inch. Bedders I didn't see, Raine can be forgiven for trying to grab an extra 20 runs before the new ball I think, and there wasn't a lot Mr Ned or Treva could have done about Pattinson in the mood he was in

All in all, Notts got their decision completely wrong at 10.30, but by 5.30 we'd made it look like a master stroke with some very ordinary batting straight out of the Durham bad old days handbook. I fear Notts will show us exactly how benign this pitch really is. The only saving grace (and I'm straw clutching) is that Pattinson was bursting through the top of the pitch in his follow through so maybe... just maybe, there will be something there for Drissell on the final day (if it gets there)

I'm really straw clutching. I don't really expect Notts to bat more than once. Still.... they may bat as injudiciously as we did. We can but hope

Have a feeling it could be a long day tomorrow. Such a contrast between the bowling attacks- Notts with some pace and spin whereas we once again looked pretty ordinary.
Need Carse back ASAP.
