I can confirm that rumours of the demise of Heath Streak have been greatly exaggerated. I just heard from him. The third umpire has called him back. He is very much alive folks.

Very famous for a few years, and then suddenly stopped being popular. He lived a lot of his life post-stardom.

still holds the record for biggest Christmas day viewing figures, seemingly. 21.4 million in 1977

the world shifted in the eighties with the rise of the comedic equivalent of 'new wave' and he rather got left behind. It won't have helped that many of his 'go to' characters also left the stage in the late seventies and early eighties.

He appeared as a guest on that last Bob Monkhouse show in the very early noughties (the one shortly before BM's death where he invited all the up and coming comedians who hadn't quite made it yet). Yarwood was there as a chat show guest, but he initially started off rehashing old impressions, which wan't what BM was after. I seem to recall that once he started being Mike Yarwood instead of Harold Wilson the interview offered quite an insightful view of MY's post fame life

Maybe there's something intrinsically superficial about doing impressions. It's hard to make it much more than a party trick.

I'd say like magic, except Derren Brown managed to take that somewhere deeper.

Comedy though, can go anywhere.

Seen a bit of a puzzling article from Mark Nicholas, where he lauded Streak for being a great human being and cricket lover. I guess he missed the whole part of Streak's life where he accepted dodgy money from match fixers, and received a massive ban from the sport. Or the part where he was accused of racism in the way he treated black players, and favoured picking white players.

But I guess its Mark Nicholas, so the guy is a prat.... but nice that the head of the MCC can ignore match fixing
