There was a time, not that long ago, when people were wondering whether England could or would score 500 in an ODI, so struggling to get to 200 at 4 or 5 an over suggests that they may have to rethink that

Only the ECB could manage to turn the best batting unit that ever existed in the format to a smouldering wreck within such a short space of time. I hope Australia win 5-0, as maybe then the ECB might be left to reflect on why, in a format that still has the most prestigious tournament in all of cricket, we have left the 50 over game to be played as a small B team competition at the fringes of the tournament, with a washed out final and almost zero interest .... And yet, we have managed to acquire two parallel T20 tournaments?

England's 50 over game is so useless, that the team picks T20 players and ignores their List A performance. Unsurprisingly playing people with no 50 over pedigree and assuming their slogfest averages carry to the longer format hasn't worked. The 50 over game has been left to die at a time its popularity was at its zenith after a world cup. And in its place we have the most uninspiring cod American franchise b*llox that we already had a better version of.

As a result, we go from sold out 50 overs games vs top level competition and good matches, to England playing a B team to empty seats on cold, rainy nights in September in a forgettable series vs their biggest rival. At times it really feels like the ECB are trying to commit suicide. How the hell can a marquee series against Australia have been relegated in the schedule underneath the 100?

Oh well..... I am sure after the ECB have killed off everything to get to the position to sell the Franchise to some Saudi rich person to exploit, we will reflect on what a great decision it was

The days of an English player having any List A record upon which to base ODI selection seem to be numbered

The One Day Cup final has now been reduced to a T20 final and doubtless the ECB will be hoping for another short rain delay so that it can be further reduced to 100 balls a side.

100 balls a side....does cricket get any better than that?

Weather looks poor, for the ODI, but it isn’t raining atm. It’s merely cold, dark and soggy underfoot. Still, if you schedule these things for the autumn, you get what you deserve, I suppose

Archer back in the side today got the wicket of Short...at some point he needs to just play and stop missing one and palying one...bowlers need rhythm and he isn't gonna get any form or rhyhtm constantly missing games, his body needs exposing to bowling again only way to toughen up surely...

England conceded a lot of runs in the last 10 overs. I'm going to guess about a hundred runs

As I said the other day, this England side seems capable of scoring runs at 4 or 5 an over only, so 6 an over feels hugely optimistic to me

we'll see..... but maybe the overwhelming scoring rate of 6 an over will cause them to panic and subside to a heavy defeat in 30 overs
